New F5 on the way

My new f5 should arrive on Monday. What settings are recommended for a first time user of this machine? I tried to search the posts but I could not find what I was looking for.

Thanks

search all post by Mike Hillis-hes the smartest F5 user and if his info can't help ya than nobodies will.but basicly it depends on where your hunting and for what-start off in all metal.but definitely research said posts

What are you going to be hunting for, J?

I do well in my ground with a disc setting of 8, 4 tone mode, gain anywhere from 50 to 55 and threshold at a +5. Hunting sports fields, parks and schools where the targets I'm after are in the top 6" of the ground.

Hey woodwizard,

Tell us about the all metal mode. I rarely use this cause I'm a tone id fanatic but you seem to do well with it. Share your experience! :clapping:

Thanks Mike, That is the info I am looking for. I am sitting here waiting for the UPS guy! Got a potential hotspot I want to try tonight! :fisher:

Got the F5 today from KellyCo. When it arrived I discovered that whoever packed the box with the free accessories jammed a probe in the box and poked a hole in the vinyl screen/display covering!! :veryangry: Now I need to return it for a replacement! The rest of the week is shot for detecting!!! I did try it out tonight and it appears that with a bit of a learning curve it will be a nice detector.

ugghhhh sorry to hear that JKabat. One of the first things I did when I got my F5 is to take a thin piece of acrylic plastic, make a template from cardboard and make a protector for the screen. It is hard to believe how flimsy that screen is. That is a big complaint with the F5. If you find the plastic that you have cracks when you cut it, put some masking tape around the line and cut that, it keeps the plastic from cracking. It is all pretty easy to do. I bought a roll of clear Scotch double sided tape and stuck it on with that. Let us know how you do when you get it back.

Call Kellyco and let them know before you return it.

They work hard to make good on their mistakes.

They'll probably throw in a bonus for you for your inconvenience and aggravation as well as paying your return shipping.

THANKS

They sent me a prepaid UPS label for the return. I sent just the head back today and another is on the way.
They were decent about the whold deal.
