New F2 need advice

Well got my new F2. Very nice looking machine solidly built IMO. I buried a quarter and a dime in the backyard at 6" , basically cut a plug tryed to disturb the ground at a minimum. Using the standard 8" coil the F2 found both coins with a good target ID. The problem is once it detected the quarter at ID #82 it just froze. In other words I backed the coil off and tried to go back over the quarter and nothing, no response, target ID still at 82. So I moved the coil to the right of the target and hit pinpoint and moved it over the quarter and it pinpointed it dead on with a 5" depth reading. So why is it after the F2 detects the quarter and the display shows the 82, a good target, it just freezes up, in other words it won't work anymore, no threshold, just stuck on 82. What am I doing wrong?

The F2/F4 keeps the last target displayed until a new/different target is detected....not sure if that's what you saw, as you should be able to repeat the signal with each new pass.

Try pulling the batteries out (for a real reset) and see what happens.

Congrats on the F2 lovepulltabs:thumbup:Maybe the next time you went over it the machine didn't see it? It does keep the last targets ID displayed like Cal said. Was this a dealer purchase or did you buy it from an individual? I would reset it like Cal said, check all the wire connections, try it without the headphones, and then bench test it and lightly jiggle the wires at each connection point while waving a coin under the coil.
Good Luck!

Thanks guys, took the batteries out and put them back in and it works fine. Going to the park with my son with the F2 and the Discovery 2200 to see what we can find.

Yea, mine those that also, until you hit a new target. To reset mine, I usually swing it across my trowel, and continue swinging.

ive experienced the same thing but not with a buried coin, ive had my f2 for a couple of weeks and have noticed a good signal then when i pass it again no signal, so i dont dig, my bad but i thought it was some interference. ill try pulling the batteries out to reset. i have to say its been a fun little machine while I'm waiting for the snow to melt in the hills to get out with my minelab. i really like this coin shooting thing.

I tried to repeat your results and could not. This little machine does hold signal until new signal made. You have received excellent info on how to check it out. I think this is a great addition to Fisher's detector line and the 4' coil is outstanding in trashy areas. Here's to "diggin it"! Larry (bjsone)

Hi, I've been using the F2 now for a couple of months and have not had any troubles with it. I agree with resetting it like the others have said. It's a great detector, especially in trashy areas with the small 4 inch coil.

Would like to know that I have discovered one thing about the F2. Raising the coil up in the air and hitting the pinpoint button will reset the machine. Also the steady lock on with no meter change if sweep from different angles is normally a good target...dig it...hope this helps.
