There are some improvements that I would definitely make to the EX11 if there was no radical next generation Explorer in the near future. VCO pinpointing is the best method in my opinion and wow one I am glad to see on the SE. I did not not at all like the old coil on the Explorer as much as I did the one on the Sovereign so I like the new coil. I really liked the way the threshold tone follows the target change as far as type of metal is concerned. I like the digital screen so combining digital with the Smart screen is also a great improvement.

I like what I am reading because they are changes I would have liked to have seen a couple years back so now here they are.

There are some things I am not sure about. Larger lettering means to me the display overall may still not be as good as we would like. I don't see enough difference in weight to really make much difference but I went to the Swingy Thingy type of device about a year ago so weight is no longer an issue. Frankly how fast it powers up or down and a little longer batter life is of no interest to me. I sure hope they did something to improve the stem locks as I hate a stem that warbles. I have read a faster processor with some changes there and if we are talking about a microprocessor drive machine then that can be anything from a heart transplant to taking an aspirin. A truly more powerful microprocessor can do wonders for discrimination and picking those faint targets out deeper. I am not that impressed with the gain set to 8 instead of 5 for a preset simply because that sounds like a way to make the detector seem hotter. If this is in conjunction with some other changes that means it really is deeper and more sensitivity then fine.

I have thought for a long time that it is not so much the technology but the easy and skill of deployment. It would be great to see a machine that really does get several more inches as a general rule of thumb and not if everything is set just right in the best of conditions and a guy is focused with all his might. I think a lot of us are at the point where a good 2, 3, 4 more inches on a regular usable level would mean we get to go to all our old sights and start all over and that for me would be great.

Well, one again I have gone on far to much but the bottom line is I am going to have one for all the reason above and because I love playing with new detectors. Very good sound improvements to a really good detector if it proves to be as we are hearing by the guys that seem to have seen one.
