NEW EXPLORER SE OWNER LOOKING TIPS AND SETTINGS

I bought explorer se and went to try 3 times so far total 4 hours. I found some silver mercury and silver dimes and some modern coins. No gold yet.
I am using factory settings turn it on and go hunting. I have been reading the successful stories in here. I wonder everybody has their own settings
or using factory settings. I am trying to educate myself by reading the stories. I am also looking to buy Sunray X-1 probe. Boy Pinpointing is really difficult
for me. I have been digging every target and my hands and my back is killing me. Any tips and settings i appreciated. Any advise too.
I will get my brother digital camera and put my founds in here too. I feel like kid in the candy store. I am already fall in love with metal detecting. Its so
nice to have that excitement and dint know what is gonna pop out of the ground. Thank you all for reading and helping me. GOD BLESS AMERICA AND OUR TROOPS.

Either you're a fast learner or you found a virgin spot. :)

As for pinpointing, you know the 'x' method, right? With a little practice, about the only thing that will throw you off often are nails (which tend to have a nice tone off the point(s) but sometimes you can tell the shape of the nail in pinpoint (VCO) mode).

Some good info to read (both by guys who are on this board (more or less frequently)):

(Note that numbers on some things have changed from the XS/II to the SE. I have no idea if he's changed much since that was written.)

One of the best tips I received that made a bigger difference for me than anything else regards the Threshold Tone (TT) setting. Take a quarter and wave it over the coil while adjusting the TT through it's complete range. See if there's a setting where the sound really jumps out at you. For me--with some hearing loss--that's around 9. With that setting I get a nice flat (non-fluctuating) tone that stands out from the rest. When I hear that sound while detecting, it's about 95% chance that I have a copper penny or better under my coil. Note that Variability and Limits will affect that tone, so set those first. (See the manual or Mike's setup page for an explanation of how they work if needed.)

Thank you so much. I just tried the settings and io got 2 more silver dimes and 3.27 dollars change and 2 horse shoe. I am learning more and more. Thank you very much. Where was i all this time this is awsome. Thanks amillion.
