Just taken delivery of the new explorer any suggestion for a program for beach work no mineralisation but plenty of junk iron, ring pulls, aluminium can fragment's, and lately melted aluminium cans from barbeque's

If you are new then I would stay with the factory preset until you are familiar with the machine. A clad trip might help you learn the tones and where things fall on the Smart screen.

In time, I would go with all metal and ferrous sounds on the beach. Then everything that is to the right 40% of the screen I would dig.

On the beach rings can be anywhere from foil to silver. After awhile you will be able to tell what is a good sound from iron most of the time. You will still be tricked some.

unless you want to miss some jewlery, don't use any disc. beaches are not that hard to dig if you have a good long handle scoop. Even with my experience I have I always dig it all...Iron is the only thing I walk past but I am sure if it is deep I may have walked over something good...If you get lazy you can make your own program with the learn and edit menu as you find too much of one junk Item or more but you will be taking your chances at missing some goodies...this machine is fun to see just what you can do with it and how much junk you can eliminate and it works well but I have noticed by doing so you can sometimes eliminate good items...so pick and choose day by day how much digging you want to do...if you are willing to walk past small gold items you can disc. all you want in the lower half but I think big gold items are great but its the smaller ones that have the stones in them...which brings up the price higher...so pick and choose...your option. Your right re the small items. The South Wales beaches are I'm glad to say full of engagement rings which are passed over by most detector users due to the overuse of discrimination. I ended up using P.I.'s 95% of the time. More work but its surprising whats a little deeper under the rubbish layer.
