New Excall 2

Batteries Plus will put the same 1000ma batts in your original pod for $40. I did it...works great. Charges with the Minelab charger, just need to add 2 hours for the extra capacity.

1200mAH or even 1400mAH batteries and stay out during the tide change and then some.

LOL

Mike,

Your information was excellent as usual. I printed out one of your earlier post regarding the Batteries Plus 1000mah batteries for the Excal. Our store here in Ft. Myers quoted me $54.00, so I wound up ordering the 1300mah Nimh's batteries from onlybatterypacks for $40.00 The only drawback is I did need the new charger, $30.00 but it charges in 2 hours instead of 16 hours. I big plus for me as I travel with my Excal and need a faster charge time to hit the 2 low tide days.

What is the procedure for getting this new pack in?
It looks like you peel the rubber back and then take
off two screws. Do you silocone or glue the rubber collar
back on or just slide it on and leave it?

Well I'm sure there are many ways to skin this cat. I remember Sunray used to sell NiMH battery packs for the Excal if I'm not mistaken, for like $100 or therebouts. Somebody else also posted a link here a while ago to someplace that had ready-made replacements for the Excal...looked for it and couldn't find it though.

You could do whatever with that collar...it's really just there for cosmetics. The watertight integrity is provided by the internal O-ring which should be coated with some silicone GREASE (not sealer) and then the screws properly installed. The outer collar could be attached with a light innner coating of silicone sealer (like RTV) if you wanted to keep it in place. Mine just slides on and it has never come off.

Thanks Mike, I knew you had done that, but am just letting them do their thing. I like it when Minelab pays the repair tab. My ESP has paid dearly for my repairs, of course many do not hunt 3-4 times aweek, for 52 weeks a year either, LOL! When it goes out of warranty, if they have not resolved it, I will buy the aftermarket batteries or sell the unit and buy another, with warranty. I really use and like my warrranty!

diver, would you be referring to Mike's or mine? Mine has not come back from Minelab yet. Hopefully real soon, I will know and will pass along what they did for me on here.

The seal is just an O-ring. When you pull the screws out on each side, the end plug pulls out with a little pop as the O-ring comes out and you simply grease it up and put it back in.

Not that I am suggesting that you do that. Unless of course your battery is no longer holding a respectable charge. In which case, you would need to do SOMETHING. :)

I ordered in a new Excalibur II for a customer and ask for the extra battery pod for it and got the older blue one so I got a hold of Minelab to be told at this time the pod and the new coil only comes with the new Excalibur II. I am sure they will be available shortly so those wishing to upgrade the battery packs will have to wait for a little while yet.

diver 420 Vaseline on the O-ring will do the pack in there has a 9 volt connector you just unplug the old one and plug the new one in. Dan

I wasn't aware that they would replace a battery due to it not holding a charge as long as it used to. I assumed that would be considered a "consumable" item. That's great.

Should I wipe the o=ring with new silicone grease everytime I replace the A A batteries in the Excalibur extra battery pack
