New Excalibur User Balanced Shaft Question

New member
Hey all
I am sure this is covered somewhere but I couldn't find specifics. I just bought a new Excalibur and with the promotion received a hip mount for it. I have read that the hip mount can stress the connections. So which balanced Shaft would you recommend & who sells them. Kellyco has one but it seems a bit pricey. Thanks

The reason I like this one is that it has the Minelab cam lock to snug-down on the lower shaft, preventing any wobble that shafts without a compression ring have. Just my personal opinion, Ray.

heres one made with a whites rod and some boat rail fitting works great even with thw wot great balance HH RonC

Can't tell from the pic....is it mounted to the side or directly inline with the White's rod?...are the coil and headphones hard-wired?...how to the headphones compare with the factory Minelab's?...thanks, great-looking setup...Ray.

yes the 7/8 boat rail t goes right on the whites rod and the wot is hard wired also the gg headphones are on a ike lite con just like the batts they very nice but not as loud as the red phones but load enuff the Wot is very stable and the coverage is sweet HH RonC

They are very easy to make all you need is 40 inches of 7/8 inch diam X 1/16inch wall thickness aluminium tubing.Cut 6inches off weld it on at 19 inches from the coil end at about 60deg angle for your handle. For an arm rest you can use some pvc piping cut to shape and bolt it on using the same bolts that mount your controlbox and battery. I made my own and it is excellent and cost less that $20 I have tried to post a picture but havent succeeded . will try again seeya Neilo

Can you send me some higher res PICS of your setup?
And what did you use to weld to aluminum?
Also do you still use a cam lock so you can adjust height of the coil?
send to evhwg@hotmail.com

It has the elbow pad forward of the housings and is better balanced and looks better then all the ones I saw. I love mine. :D: My Excal 1000 is really nice to swing now. Later Jerry aka Tinfoil.

does the shaft have a compression ring to prevent lower shaft wobble? Just wondered, it looks like it would balance nicely...thanks, Ray.

With the adjustable M/L wrist post and the strap on the post like the one on the Sov. G/T. You need that strap on the wrist post when you are swinging. It takes a lot of weight off your hand when you are in the water and you don't drop the shaft if you get hit buy a bad wave or a rip. Hope this helps. Like I said I love mine. :D: Later Jerry aka Tinfoil

Greenmeanie you dont need a cam lock on the bottom the tubing is a snug fit for adjustment drill a series of holes 2inches apart so the spring clip can lock into the holes. As far as welding goes it was done by an aluminium mig welder. the other alternative would be to get a handle from a minelab SD and simply bolt it in place.
I will put up a rough plan but it is in metric measurements.neilo

It has the hand strap on the front handle that really helps in rough water so you are not gripping the handle to where your hand cramps. The FL straight shaft does not have this feature. Also the shaft lock between the 2 shafts takes out the lower shaft wobble. The Fl straight shaft does not have this either. I am very pleased with what Dixie has added to their shafts for user comfort.

There are several shafts on the market now at all different prices. Each with it's own features. We have listened to suggestions and comments from customers and this is why we are going to be making them as we do. There is a lot of requests to powder coat some in Black and we are looking seriously at doing that but want to make sure we can. We have a load of aluminum coming in Thursday and will be starting on them later this week. I don't want to start anything here, so lets keep it cool and just have fun. By the way, if you want to order one, give me a call and yours will be the first shipped. Thanks again, Ron@ Ron's Dixie Metal Detectors

Do you have to get the connector for the headphones from Ikelite or is there another source, Part number???? aproximate price ????????
That was on my wish list from below post on Minelab improvements.

I removed the derogatory post I found on here the other day. Sometimes in the process the orphan post left over have to be removed also.

Here at Finds we are not going to allow the trashing of any sponsor, or their product. Cut & dry, it will be deleted along with the associated post.

We are also not going to allow the posting of listings from non-sponsoring dealer sites. This includes someone making a post, and in the body of the post suggesting that one should go to a certain dealer, listing that dealers name, and/or address.

Now lets put this to rest, and get back to detecting.

The end on the headphones came with the headphones from detectorpro the end that fits in the excal came from minelab I dont remenber what they charged I had ohter work done as well thx Ron

I can understand why the FSS post was deleted and any associated posts but can I recommend a product that I use and like if the manufacturer or seller is not a sponsor? Sometimes people ask advice on this forum and the products I use are not always available from or sold by sponsoring dealers.

Also, what if we have a problem with a sponsor? Should we keep quiet about it or let other forum participants know about it?

If you want to keep this off the forum please email me.

Thanks,
John

the part about having a problem with a sponsor here, it would be best not to air it in public. You have a problem with a sponsor, and you make it a slam against him, it will be deleted.

It's their $$$ that's bringing you these forums, so a derogatory post against them most likely be removed.

Bill C.

I made my own balanced shaft, you simply look at what's out there buy a piece of 7/8 aluminum tubing, disassemble your minelab shaft, including the shaft lock because it is reusable simply by drilling a 1/2 hole in the new shaft. Reuse the spring locks and foam grip. It takes about 20 minutes of time to build if you have a drill press and vise.
