New excalibur model

Sand dog

I know the excalibur works great for the beach I have many gold finds to prove that. But I really think it's time for an upgraded excalibur. Performance wise I'd like to see more depth and sensitivity to smaller gold like chains. The battery charging system is outdated they gotta be able to show charge status by now. And also have interchangeable coils. I hope there keeping these things in mind for next excalibur.

Since they are boosting the price it would be wise to make some LONG overdue updates to a great product with long in the tooth features.

Headphones. Please don't forget that they need to replace those Cheap (but very expensive) headphones.

Many of the issues we dont like are because its a dive machine. The last couple of price increases DIDNT bring us any changes. I suspect their thought is ..... if you want a water machine for use other than the dive set up ...... buy our pricy CTX. Any of the mods you would like to see would likely NOT be water proof to 200 ft. Salt setting and multi freq with its limitations to small targets is what it is..... that wont change. However, recover speed and a move to FBS are possible. Since Kelleyco will install a PPer now for us..... i suspect ML is watching the stats on the numbers and repairs issues. But like i said.... that mod would likely be useless in a dive situation. Its highly unlikely they will redesign our mods in and have it compete directly with the CTX. That wouldnt be a smart move.

Dew

You may well be right, Dew. I am glad I don't have to crank start my car or add a starter motor after market. Several features of the Excal are equally, embarrassingly primitive. If the price is going up it sure would be nice to include some quality increases to salve the sting! :detecting:

Heck, we waited what, 10-12 years for the Excal II, and there honestly weren't many (if any) significant changes done to it. Hope the Excall III has some real improvements, other than the price which will most definitely be much greater. Headphones, straight shaft, better knobs, change of coils, pinpoint switch, to name a few. Maybe hire Oldebeechnut to design it.

The Big thing now that you will find is the Garrett ATX is making big, big waves. Florida and now up in Pa. guys are running them for relic hnunting even. By far the most sensitive PI. unit out there if you like PI units.

I prefer my surfmaster and the Detectorpro Undewrwater is now on the list since it's made some really great changes.

PI or not...... there is a lot of sand here in Fl and a PI isnt making that much difference. Lot of moving parts to the ATX..... something that you really dont want in sand and salt water. Not cheap for a PI either. What uS is it running? I do know a couple of guys who have them...... but they arent getting much use out of them just because of the sand.

Whoever came up with this 200' depth parameter for detectors back in the day? Most of us sweep the dry and wade, possibly snorkel and fan, if we do dive, its probably 25' max for general purpose jump off sites beneath cliffs, bridges, and docks...maybe 50' tops...

The constraints have been amply listed, the only mfg that took advantage of this on a grand scale is Garrett with the ATPro series...I know you Salties need the technology a ML or CZ has to offer, since you are dealing with other issues than us Freshies, still, there would be a fairly large global market for something built along the AT's parameters that gives you what you need to hunt salt....(changeable coils and phones)..

My next rig will most likely be the DetectorPro Udub....but again, a guy cant switch coils with that one either...thats the only thing from keeping me from pulling the trigger today...If I decide to dive the aforementioned jump off sites this coming year, I will get one immediately though..

Salt or Fresh, We know that sand/silt is also a huge issue on the shafts...it completely chugs them up and makes collapsing or adjusting them invalid in a very short while...

Well, good luck boys...I hope you find what you are looking for...whoever targets your constraints and builds you what you WANT will make some serious jack...
Mud

They can keep the Excalibur the same other then I would like to see more power to the coil, not sure if regulations control what can be done but more depth and we can take it from there..And I would love to help them out but I like to test things in the field myself before making a final production, and sometimes you have to have things break before you know where there weakness lies. Which takes lots of hours of use in the worse conditions along with abuse.

Personally, I'm happy with the 200 foot dive rating. I like all the safety margin I can get when I'm diving with my detector.
