New Excalibur II

My new Excalibur arrived yesterday evening and I have the battery pack charging. Man, this thing sure has a long coil cord. It took a while to get it wrapped somewhat neatly around the shaft. I hope to take it to the beach next week to give it a spin. I am trying to decide on a straight shaft and I'm considering either the one piece or two piece plugger. The Anderson carbon fiber shafts look interesting. I have been using a Gitzo carbon fiber tripod for several years and the weight and stiffness advantage over aluminum is significant. I wonder if a similar performance gain would be noticed with an carbon fiber Excalibur shaft?

jmho..get pluggers shaft and chest mount assy......it all works great for me..

I was looking at plugger's 3 piece travel kit with the break down rod and waist mount but the chest mount looks to be comfortable with easy access to the controls. I like the idea of being able to break the shaft down for easier transportation, but I am a little concerned about play in the joints of the multiple piece shafts. Those one piece plugger shafts appear to be rugged but transporting them in a small vehicle's trunk might be a challenge.

It's hard enough to find time to hunt, but thanks for the suggestion.

How long does it take to drill 5 1/4 inch holes and that can be done at night. rainy days etc and you will have a super shaft for under $30.00

some folks have more money than time, and then there are folks that have more money than time .......and then there are folks like me who don't have enough of either !!!.....:nopity:

I am with John. The harness is the best thing since sliced bread. I tried the over/under and it was just as heavy as the stock shaft. I tried the extension piece out the back and this actually was the best until the harness. I tried a hip mount belt. You can't get at the controls and it was uncomfortable. Plus I have another finds bag on a belt. Two belts are a mess.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. I ordered the three piece Plugger shaft and will try the Chest harness as well. I've had my Excalibur out three times this week and I have been killing the pull tabs. I am slowly learning some of the tones and have become proficient at identifying crown caps. No gold so far but the law of averages is swinging my way.
