New Excalibur II with 8" or 10" Coil ?

G'day from Down-Under, I am a "Newbie" to the Forum. I am in the next few weeks going to purchase a new Excallibur II as i am itching to have a go in the water & emulate the success you guys achieve, Have been using a Sovereign GT for around 2 years with a good lot of success on our local beaches ( Not much jewellery though ). My question to the forum is 8" or 10" coil, As i can order the Excalibur with either what are the Pro's & Con's of each. All thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Regards Ashley

You will have to answer that question yourself. Concentrate on how many nulls you get running the GT and if there are many(indicating a great deal of iron), then perhaps the smaller coil would be beneficial. If the 10" does not null much with the GT and handles your mineralized ground well, then maybe that would be the better choice. In any event, you are not making this choice blindly, the results will mirror similarly with the GT. You just have the advantage of playing in the wadda now mate!

Thanks for the reply, Am hitting the beach again shortly so will take serious note of the nulling, On my GT i am now using the 15" WOT Coil & from recollection it nulls a small amount more than as for the 10" Std coil. I gather then that the smaller the coil will allow me to get closer in on the nulling spots. Intend travelling this great country of ours so i guess i will find many places that the Excalibur combination i go will give me varying results.
Cheers

Good day Ashley, what part of Australia do you come from, I live near Gosford, NSW. We don't have much junk here compared to the rest of the globe, I use an E-Trac with a 15" wot on the dry sand and have just bought an Excalibur 2 for the water, mine has a 10" coil. I haven't used it yet, i have just finished making my balanced shaft and will be painting it tomorrow, so using it is very close. With the lack of junk on our beaches, i had no worries about buying the 10" model as there will be less in the water, hope this puts your mind at ease, Bob

G'day Bob, Port Lincoln in Sth Australia is where i hail from. Love golding with the GPX4500 but there aint no gold here just lots of beaches( except maybe in the drink ) It's been a long time coming to this point of getting an Excalibur & i guess either size coil wouldn't really matter ( Have used a 10" on the Soverign GT for about 18mths ), Did try it in the moderate surf and about 2 ft water & there was a bit of resistance sweeping it around so wondered if an 8" would be better. (Must admit I was more worried about a wave getting me or dropping the soverign in the drink to really giving it a good go ) Hanging to get the Excalibur & giving it a good go ! Cheers

from me up here..i use the 10" coil works great on these beaches here in fla...ive found lots with it so for in the past year ive had it..jmo..:clapping::minelab::detecting:

Don't give up on the GT, I have both the GT and the Excalibur 11 with the 10" coil.

I like both detectors, but in 2009 I found over 150 rings with the GT (37 were gold, 3 platinum, 100 or so silver and misc other rings.) The GT is a great detector on the beach in wet sand or dry.

I use the Coilteck 15" WOT coil and dig small target's to 20 inches all the time.

Thanks for the reply, I wont be giving up on the GT, Have had to many finds & too much fun with it. I reckon Detecting is so much like fishing, You end up with a selection of detectors for varying conditions just like fishermen have an array of rods for each different species of fish they go after.. Hanging to get to a beach where i find my first Gold Ring. Cheers
