New Excalibur II Problem - Volume

firefour

New member
I have a 10" Excalibur II and used it about four times on the beach. I used it Thursday and it worked fine. This morning Saturday I went to the beach again and it is working except the volume on the headphones is very low. I checked the settings and the volume control. There just isn't enough volume in the headphones. By the waves its impossible to hear. Anyone experience this? I guess it has to go back to Minelabs. Doesn't seem to be a wire because it isn't intermittent its constant. Unit has never gotten wet except for the coil.

Battery is fully charged and threshold is set OK. Seems to be an internal issue. Anyone else experiance this?

This is a problem with new Excals...seems their quality control has went out the door. I know 2 people who recently purchased new Excal II's and had the same issue...they lost their volume after just a few hunts. ML needs to get their act together!

Do you know what was found to be wrong after it was repaired under warranty or did they replace the units? Thanks for your help.

Read this post from last year it might help you out with your volume issues Jim

Funny you should mention this, I went detecting at the beach this morning and my 3 year old Excal II did that exact same thing, very low volume. Tried everything, checked headphones, battery, cables, still the same. I did find some water inside my peltor headphones, the sponge inside that cuts down on the noise was sopping wet, need to check out the wiring and make sure it's not corroding. Let us know what you find out. HH

Unit was sent back to Minelabs in Chicago. They replaced the headphones which were defective. Spoke to a tech named John, he stated he replaced them and they were bad. A little over three weeks turnaround time. Pretty good. Minelab was very responsive to my questions after the unit was returned to me. Special thanks to Ron at Gold-digger in NJ for his special attention in handling the return of my unit.
