NEW EXCALIBUR 3 !!!!!! With Photos

You have done a good job waterproofing the EXPLORER.
I commend your skill and ingenuity on that project.
What is that Schraider valve on the side for ... to pressure up the box?

I bet it does work better than the Excal II BBS techonoligy.

Minelab is way overdue for making a waterproof FBS detector available to us beach and water hunters.
I wonder if they have an engineer that can deliver on that?
Perhaps they are waiting on White's to produce a waterproof V3 so they can play catch up again ... lol ... ...

Nice work Neronidas!
Looks like a deep sea vehicle for treasure recovery.
I see what looks like an air fitting on the housing, do you pressurize it for underwater work at depth?
You should do a video next time for youtube when you do the E-Trac, there will be many interested viewers.

Thanks for sharing your project!

HH,

Drew.

Also, I have the Excalibur II 1000, and my Explorer is better in depth, sensibility and estability. With the Explorer I hunted some gold chains and some mini gold pendants. You cant hunt those items with a Excalibur II.

The valve in the side is for pressure up the box. Before going to water, I check the pressure of the box. And if the pressure its ok, I'm sure that the water cat flow inside the box.

Hi Druid.
Depending on the depth that Im going to work, I use more or less pressure on the box. But the main reason for that valve is to be sure that the water cant flow inside the box. I use this custome metal detector for quite swimming zones, where the jewls and the trash are depth.

Hello,
Can you send a close up photo of the face plate side of the box? Thanks.

Kind Regards,

Hello,
Just wanted to say that you did an excellent and amazing job waterproofing the Explorer. I'm sure you will make some great finds. I'll be watching for your video.
Thanks,
Joe

I made a few underwater camera housings and strobe housings before it became easy to take pictures underwater. I made them out of Acrylic and since they were clear it made it easy to see if there is a leak. The one area that I always had trouble with was getting the through the hull fitting for the electric cords to seal consistently. I wonder if they have new products that now make that easy.
I dive so the pressure increases as I go deeper and the silicone around the hole and the heat shrink works OK if you are wading, but for diving not so good.
I too would like to see the face plate on that mod.
The physics of the positive pressure inside the case is unusual to me. I'd learned that if you get a good seal at 2' it will still be a good seal at 102'. If the O ring works at 2' and then you go deeper, you only increase the force on the O ring to have more pressure on it to seal tighter. That's good until you get a catastrophic failure of the case at it's weakest point. I'd be interested in your comments on that. You's works so there's the proof.
Also, did need any special tools or equipment to make the housing? It's a totaly awesome construction. Please post more info and pictures.
I suspect the moderators may ask that this be moved to the modification of the forum. I'll be looking in both places. Nice work on that...Jim
