I used to metal detect y ears ago. My wife got very ill. She had to go on dialysis. Trips to the doctors cooking house work. I never had time to detect. She passed away in December.
I bought a new etrac. I have been using factory settings. I have no clue how to change settings. I would travel 300 miles from southern WV if someone would teach me.
First off I am sorry for you loss. You will do fine with the factory settings until you get the hang off of the e-trac. watch some youtube videos on the e-trac and you will learn alot about it. You should purchase Andy Sabisch's e-trac book as it is full of everything you need to learn the e-trac. Time on the machine is very important. It is not as hard as some make it out to be to learn, now I am not an expert on it yet as I have been using it for 3 months, but it is an amazing machine. Read the manual that came with it to be able to navigate through the menu.Others will chime in here I am sure.
Hi trdiggin. I live in Sterling Va which is about 25 miles east of Washington D.C.. If you are interested, I would be happy to share my knowledge of the E-Trac with you. I have a brother who lives in Capon Springs WV, how close is that to you? Sorry to hear about the loss of your wife. Hope you're doing well.
so sorry about your wife
detecting is such a great hooby and these guys who offer their help is the reason we join this great forum always loads of help and when you have learnt more about the etrac you will be in awe and when you start digging those keepers you will be smiling to yourself HAPPY HUNTING
Sorry for the loss of your wife. You have a great machine there and like Bart stated start in coins factory pattern and set it to Trash High and Ground Difficult and away you go. You will learn quick. I set a few coins of different denominations on the ground to see what they came up as when I sept the coil over them and memorized the ID's and went from there. When I got a good signal no matter what the ID number at first I dug it to see and after a few times you learn what is in your area and what it all ID's at. Let us know how it goes for you and if we can be of anymore help too.
Sorry about your wife. I have never used the factory programs. I have always thought that they were pretty weak and you are not getting not even near the full capabilities of the E-Trac. When I used my E-Trac the first time out three years ago this month I put the deep coins for park hunting program from Andy's book in it and dug some good and deep indians and barbers that first day. I have used Explorers for 6 1/2 years before that so I kinda had a head start. Andy Sabisch did an excellent job with his Explorer/E-Trac Handbook. I met him at a hunt in South Carolina. He explains how the Minelabs, FBS, and how the two detectors work. Then he goes into each individual setting in more detail than the instruction manual and in layman's terms. It will also show you how to get into the menu and use the settings. PM or email me your address and I will send you a free copy of it. I have plenty and I give them away every time I sell an E-Trac or Explorer because I consider it "must reading". It is best to buy a detector from someone that actually uses them, can help with the set up, use, and that can answer questions.
Email or call me if you have any questions about anything.
