New etrac and new at hobby

etracjoe

New member
Hello all, I am new at the metal detecting hobby and just wanted to get aquainted with everyone. I recently purchased the minelab etrac becaused a buddy of mine told me that minelab was the way to go. I opted for what the dealer told me was the best. I thought that would mean not digging up any junk, but then I soon realized after reading through these forums that it is inevitable. And in the past week I've found a lot of junk!!:pulltab: Also some newer pennies and two quarters from the late sixtys. I've only used the detector on coins mode. I live in Dutchess county NY which is a very historical area and cant wait to do more hunting but unfortunately with all the rain we've been having and I just recently hurt my back at work. Bummer:thumbdown: But anyways was hoping to find someone local to me to do some hunting with and maybe some good pointers. Thanks in advance

Junk is part of the hobby.. But keep at it.. those deep coins are out there..

Anything past 1900 is a keepsake here. You started at the top machine wise. A coin garden will make things so easy for you.:super:

Hello, Im new to the hobby and the forum here aswell so I know jow you feel Joe - i bet you also have just spent several hours reading all the previous posts catching up!
well my first impressions are that i appreciate the wealth of knowledge everyones put here. ive lernt more in a few hours on here then probably several weeks in the fields.

thanks for all the responses and boggles, your right, i was beginning to think that the internet was only good for email and myspace, oh geeze cant forget twitter now!!!

Welcome to the forum and the hobby. The more junk we can get you newbies to dig the less we have to clear to get to the good stuff? So start clearing.

Actually I am still new to the hobby and have found it to be a blast. Keep at it before long you can avoid some of the junk when you get to know your detector.

HH,

Dave
