After wanting to give MDing a try for years now YOU guys finally convinced me to go with an X-70. I ordered and received one about a month ago and can't wait until the ground clears (snow and ice)to give it a go. Have read through the FAQ FAQ several times and will no doubt reference it again as I learn my way around the X-70.

A big THANK YOU to all who are/were so willing to share their hard earned knowledge. THAT more than anything is the real treasure for those new to the hobby like me.

Hope to be able to make a useful contribution to this site once I learn what the heck I'm doing. That could take a while though. LOL

Beale, thanks for your 2 cents. I ended up buying mine from John. You were right, he is a super nice guy!

Hi GEEMAN,
Be sure to read everything you can about your detector. Do what some of us have done and write down the Noise Cancel and Ground Balance settings on a piece of paper and keep it with you. This way you'll know you're setting the machine right. Don't expect too much the first time you use it because you'll make mistakes and be trying to figure it out. Try the most simple, auto modes to begin with until you get used to it.

I have a feeling the X-70 is the kind of detector that will last many good years and will be viewed as a bench mark for Metal Detecting long into the future.

I've just been reading posts on other boards where users of other detectors and even other Minelab models have declared their X-70 to have more of an ability to find tough targets which their more expensive machines simply couldn't isolate. For Beach/Relic/Coin hunting, it's a VERY good choice. But being versatile enough to Prospect with makes it a dual purpose detector. Not many out there! And none this light either.

Enjoy your new 'toy'!

Hey GeeMan Congrats! You are really gonna enjoy the X-70! I am glad that John was able to help you out. He will help you also with any issues or questions. Heck just talking detecting is cool with him.

Good luck with the 70. Once you start getting finds let us know, Beale.

Welcome to the wonderful world of metal detecting. And welcome, as well, to the home of many X-Terra users. Glad to have you part of the group. Feel free to contribute anytime you like. Always good sharing thoughts and ideas with fellow hobbyists. HH Randy

Welcome....and the very best of luck with your X-70.. TomB

I just got my X-Terra 70 last week. I've had it out a couple of times and have come back with coins both times. I'm still getting used to the machine. I believe it takes a while to really learn the In's and outs of any detector. I think you will be very please with your 70. I'm all smiles every time I even look at it.
This is a great site. I have learned a lot from the posts of the knowledgeable members here and I too wish to thank that all who have helped me learn my machine. I really felt I had a huge head start before the machine even arrived.

My Best to all, John K
