So can anyone tell me the composition of these coins???
I am afraid that they will melt underground in a matter of weeks now that the government sees how sucessful the zinc pennies worked.

Naw.........they will be around for a long time. Composition is the same as the Sacagawea, I'm sure. A solid copper core with outer layers of manganese brass.

PRESIDENTIAL DOLLARS----"The composition of the Presidential dollars remains the same as that of the Sacagawea dollars: a core of pure copper, layered with manganese brass".

THey're clad like all the rest. I found one recently that was so black and cruddy I couldn't tell what it was till I cleaned it up. They are worse than the SAC dollars and I have about 37 of those.

Thanks for the input folks.
I don''t care what they are made of as long as they are intact and worth a dollar after a couple years underground.
Just seems wrong to unearth a zinc penny that is so corroded that it is now worth less than face value.
