New dollar coin coming soon

... which is probably a good idea .... so long as it will fit in the standard cash drawers all retailers use.

England's Pound notes are all different sizes. It makes sense to do so for the blind.

The dollar coins won't make it because folks don't want to carry that much weight / volume around in their pockets. England has a 1 Pound coin and no 1 pound bill .... after awhile, you end up with a huge pocket full of change ... lots of folks use a baggie to keep track of it all. My vote for a dollar coin is

I don't know but I can't ever remember standing in line at a supermarket or department store with a blind person present.

This sounds like another attempt at political correctness.

The needs of the few seem to outweigh the needs of the many in this country anymore. How did blind people cope for the last two hundred years? It makes little sense that the decision of one judge will set into motion something of this magnitude.

I know that my opinion seems hardhearted but if this was so important of an issue, it would have been corrected a long time ago.

Did this judge take into consideration that there are millions more stupid people in this country than blind people? What effect will this have on the dummies of our nation having to cope with different size currency?

What is next? Blind people getting ripped off at car washes? How does a blind person know his car is clean after it goes through the wash? How about unscrupulous shoe salesmen that sells two different color shoes to a blind person? Shouldn't we have specific legislation against these unspeakable criminal acts?

... and I agree with you that it would seem unnecessary ... except that our mint does seem to redesign money on a regular basis in the past 10 years or so. Only reason bills are now all the same size is to reduce investment of equipment to print / produce different size bills. What I'd like to see would be elimination of pennies... just round to the nearest nickel.

... I'm serious! Quite a few geezers get really upset when we charge them a dime for their 9 cent photocopy (9 cents + 1 cent tax). They know our state sales tax is 6% and the tax applied to their 9 cent photocopy works out to be 10% .... some of them get really furious about it.

A few years back the guys laughed at me when I was trying to calm down some guy getting really belligerent about the 1 cent photocopy tax when i reached under the counter, grabbed a pair of rental sheet metal snips, took a penny from the "take a penny" bowl, cut the penny in half and gave the man his rightful change.

We have a "Take a Penny / Give a Penny" bowl at both registers. Some of the geezers will take all the penny's from it to start off paying for their purchase. We put a sign on it that reads:
If you need one, take one.
If you need two, take two.
If you need three, get a job!
