New Discovery 3300 need some tips

I am having trouble properly ground balancing this pig (I call it Pig because she chews batteries)...When I Ground balance, I raise the coil to hip high, hit the pinpoint button, lower the coil, and if I hear anything, I turn the GB knob a bit clockwise from preset...I repeat this proccess, hitting the pinpoint button each time until I can lower the coil and hear no sound...As far as I know, this is the manuals method...Someone else told me I do not need to hit the button each time, but just bob the coil while turning the knob until I hear no sound...WHich way is the best way???
I am considering selling this thing before it gets too old, and going back with a White's 5900 Di Pro or Pro XL if I can find one...She just is not my cup of tea right now...

Thanks,

I use the 3300 and never had the issue have with either the ground balancing, or the batteries. Could part of your issue be using a poor quality battery which isn't lasting for you, and also even when fresh just doesn't allow the machine to function properly?

I use high end PowerEx 9.6V rechargeable...They are true 9.6V I forget what the mAH on them are...

Hey GGG,
I don't normally use the no-motion mode very much but the way I set it is; raise the coil 2-3 ft hit pinpoint, lower coil and manually adjust the GB for no tone or slight tone. If the unit need re-adjusting I just use the manual GB knob and re-adjust. On thing I have notice, even with the Landstar, is that unit takes about 3 min to settle/stabilize. When I get to a site first thing I do is to get the detector out of the vehicle and turned on while I get myself ready. Main thing about that is getting the detector at the same temp as the outside vs. in the vehicle. I use this mode in wet saltwater sand when I want to dig all targets, works pretty good.

hey groundhog on my land star the manual says that you start with with manual ground balance knob in full clockwise pos and move knob counter clockwise to very low tone for manual g balance hope this helps h/h scott
