New digger question

I'm new to this. My yard has yielded some junk, but in some parts I get signals from 60's up through the high 80's with the VDI's saying coins and one hit solidly says $1. All the depths are 8 to 12 inches. I really hate to make my yard look like it was attacked by rogue gophers on holiday. Does one just walk away or is there a way to go that deep and not destroy that nice growth it took a long time to achieve? By the way, all the junk I have found has been ID'ed as coins, but came up junk. Thanks.

You some times have to dig the junk to find the deep coins. But as far as your yard goes you can dig real deep holes with out tearing the yard up. I would get a Lesche shovel, they are real sharp and easy to sharpen and hold an edge good. And all you have to do is cut a horse shoe shape plug about five inches around an about four inches deep lay it back, then lay a towel down and dig the rest of the dirt out of the hole and put it on the towel after finding the target pick the towel up and pour your dirt back in the hole and lay the plug back over and tap it in with your foot. You cant hardly tell you were there, and it will not kill your grass.

The red one is my favorite it does a nice job. You can purchase them through Kellyco

If you have a test garden ( buried coins in your back yard at different depths) you'll be able to learn what the MXT is telling you.
You said you were new so learning curve will be there.
If you want to find the good stuff you may have to dig every thing.at first..
In doing this you'll eventually be able to tell the difference between the good stuff from the trash.:detecting:

To add to hillbilly bob if it is your lawn if you have a spray bottle with water and plant food spray roots before putting plug down it will help with the lawn.

Thanks Fred, Good looking out forgot that part. I use root stimulator you can get in at any Wal-Mart does not take much. Small mist type sprayer and your good to go.

OK, thanks for the suggestions. I didn't know root stimulator could be used that way. Hope some of those deep signals really are coins.

As you get to know the machine, you'll find that many junk objects will register as coins. However, for what it;s worth coins hardly ever register as junk. One of the tricks I picked up on is after pinpointing with the trigger, wiggle (not swing) the coil side to side and front to back while keeping it as close to the pinpoint as possible. You'll get the most solid id this way and if it is registering a coin with full bar and not waffling on the id, it's a pretty good bet that it'll be a coin. Also, with time, your ear will begin to pick up on subtle differences in the tone that are hard to describe, but you'll recognize the winners when you hear them.
Good luck and have fun,
BB
