New Detectors

It kind of seems to me White's and Fisher have kind of missed the boat on their new detectors. I have a 3Z and a 70 pro and I know they are higher end detectors but it is the season hunter that knows more of what he wants in a detector then the beginner. It takes time to know what and how to have an added advantage, something new comes out we all are looking for the one thing our detectors might me missing.

If you read some of the forums you will find some people are still using older detectors because they have a feature that the newer machines may lack. A lot of people have machines that are older and they use them for very trashy areas and they won't let go of these machines. I still use my 6000XL not very old but a analog meter that is so nice to read not numbers jumping around.

I do like the fisher CZ very much but the only new machine that is gettig a lot of good reactions is the X-Terra. The main thing it has to offer is that you can hunt in two different Freq by changing the coil. The DFX lets you do that with no change but the DFX had no depth for me in California.

Anyway I was thinking what NASA TOM is doing I think a new CZ would be nice since it is the detector that has the most owners in the Fisher line?

It kind of seems to me White's and Fisher have kind of missed the boat on their new detectors.

How so, they both sought to bring a new mid-priced detector to market with a certain performance level and feature set, and that's what they have done.

I have a 3Z and a 70 pro and I know they are higher end detectors but it is the season hunter that knows more of what he wants in a detector then the beginner.

The new offerings from Fisher, ML, & White's are not aimed at replacing their high end machines.

What is it that is missing that would make your "dream machine", you seem upset that none of the three new offerings offer exactly what you were looking for, but you don't say what that is. What exactly are you looking for? If you don't post it, then the other members of the forum can't make suggestions of machines that may meet your needs.

Here's where I really disagree, I used those old analog meter machines from the late 70's & early 80's, the Excel or Edge will eat their lunch in trash. Many tout the GMT 1650 as a great iron machine, and it may be, but how deep? And what about other trash items, not just common ones, but the type you may discover that are specific to a site i.e. (beach chair aluminum punch blanks). How do you handle those with an analog meter? Can you get as precise a reading as on an Excel/Edge/MXT/M6/C$ etc.? You can't distinguish that kind of trash with an analog meter, Icon based ID, or notch indicating display, period. Or are you going to spend half a day thumbing a disc knob on a non-metered machine?

I don't know what forums you are reading, but I read at least a half-dozen, and that's not what I am reading. Minelab has done some very good marketing with their new machines, and that is a straight up statement with no inuendo. I posted a review of the X30 on the Findmall X-Terra forum, I pointed out what I found to be it's strengths and weaknesses, it's not perfect, but no machine is.

There are many people who theorize, postulate, talk, jabber etc. I hunt! Specifically I am now wading in 32degF water, breaking the skim ice away if I can. This is where I was wading for several hours on Thursday.

And this is where I waded for several hours on Friday & today.

I invite any of the "talkers", to join me for a little wading with minimal gear, rubber boots and wool socks, after three hours in the water, we'll see how much talking they want to do!

Merry X-mas

Great post BarnacleBill!!

Now that really looks cold, you must know there is something out there rewarding. HH, Bernie

that is quite accurate, and the air temp on Thursday was 27degF, winds were 10-15mph off the ice. No problem w/ the display, not even any slowing down, which I have seen in the past also.

I don't think anyone was out asking. "watchyadoing, Mister?"

You know,Vlad, this is an interesting topic I don`t see discussed very much at all.How do different detectors stand up to temperature extremes?Mike Hillis,I recall, had his Coinstrike go whacko from being left in a hot car last summer. In the Whites MXT engineering report,Dave Johnson said that the meter for that machine was choseen partly because it could stand up to high temperatures in the desert.Would either machine do OK in extreme cold?Good topic!Since this is the Coinstrike/ID forum does anyone have any additional observations about those machines?

missed the boat if you think the new Aussies better cause you can switch a coil frequency? More slick marketing I think just to sell coils (what's that another $150 or more?). You know kinda like the slick multi-arrow ads? Now saying OK, now buy our 1 arrow ;) I hope they have a good warranty because the only buzz I hear is how much it tips over......
Anyhow, I don't think you should knock the Edge till you try it. You keep talking about trashy area's & these new Fisher's are the best for that because of the real time speed. You should really try one before forming an opinion...
But I'm glad your enjoying your 3Z, whatever that is? :D

You are so passionate at pointing out that you don't like someones elses opinion! If you want to go head to head with me I'll take my XL pro and see if you can match it in the trash or good ground with a $600. new machine at the same price

As far a something new...Masking? Iron? Seperating Gold jewler from tash? Give me a new detector not an old one that can make these problems easier to work with and I will eat your hat.

Like I said a lot of use long time users want a new machine that is using newer technolgy that can do something like the above mentioned to give us a EDGE. I know there are more seasoned users then new users like you.

We don't need all that crap on this board. If you want to start a big ol' "Mine is better than yours", or "I am THE MAN" thing, take it over the the Depot where it goes on ALL the time. The bottom line is, if you don't want to know what someone else thinks, DON"T ASK! Now....everybody have a NICE day.

Your starting to sound like me :D Would you like to host? ;)
Anyhow, I was thinking the same thing. Opinions are fine, but coming into a C$/Excel/Edge forum saying Fisher's new detectors missed the boat ya gutta expect some rebuttal.....
