Hi I am seriously considering getting a DFX with a sunray pinpointer. I have a Minelab with pinpointer but on long hunts it is too heavy or weighted wrong, hows the DFX in comparision??? HH George in Colorado

Hi George,

I don't have a DFX, but I do have an MXT which is quite similar in balance and weight. I think you'll find an improvement in balance using the DFX depending on which Minelab you are using. I, also, have a Minelab X-Terra 70 which is also nicely weighted, and balanced.

Hope this helps,
OldeTymer

THERES WAYS TO DO THIS FOR ANY DETECTOR ASK AROUND...GRAVE DIGGER MAX FROM VA AND SYFTA ARE GREAT WORKING ON:minelab:BUILING SHAFTS AND DIFFERENT MOUNTINGS!!FIND THEM ON BEACH FORUM..I KNOW THERE ARE KITS AND WAYS TO DO THIS TO YOUR WHITES TOO! GOOD LUCK!! DFX IS A GREAT DETECTOR..HH

I have both - a Minlab Explorer II and a DFX.

I plan on doing some testing / comparisons this weekends. I will post my findings.

However - with out any direct comparisons in performance, I like the way the DFX works better. I seems the Exp may have more frequencies at its disposal it may provide more information, it may be a shade more powerful, but, the caliope of sounds is too much for me.

I like the relative simplicity of the DFX better, if you can call it that, - it seems to click for me. This machine feels right, acts as expected, is just as powerful, and is is easy to figger out what it's trying to tell me.

- that was about as subjective as it gets.

Thanks for all your posts I have an EXII and there is alot of sounds that are very close and feel I have TOO much info to work with> I never thought I would say that but it seems to be one of the problems. HH George In Colorado

I have both the DFX and Explorer XS that I bought on a whim. My elbow never hurt while detecting until I got the XS. I bought an 8" coil for it and that helped some. The DFX is a breeze to swing, even with the 8x14 coil. I will say the Minelab will go a bit deeper with better target ID at depths. I think they have the ground balance figured out and that's probably why they get the depth they do. The XS is terrible around cellar holes. It just takes too long to recover the threshold and you have to put it in all metal just so it doesn't null out constantly. I like having the variation of the two units as I do different types of hunting. But if I had too choose between the two, I'd take the DFX. Ron

Hi George,
Just a suggestion since you mentioned having possibly too much information at hand with the Explorer
Why not consider keeping the Explorer and get an Whites M6 as a complimentary detector.
It has optional 7 tone ID has a very quick recovery speed and almost the same VDI scale as the DFX and uses the same coils as the DFX,i like mine and some report it to have similar depth to the MXT. Just a thought. HH Bill

Keep the Explorer. It it the better deep-coin silver shooter. But consider the Matrix M6 as a second unit., You might end up using it most of the time and save the Explorer for those times when you're mainly just "Silver Shooting" an old park or other site. The M6 is lighter, can be swept faster (but is a slow-sweep model), and has great Target ID for most typical-depth targets.
