New Detector?

Anordstr

New member
Hey guys, I've been looking around for a new detector, and trying to get as many opinions as possible. Should I go with the DFX or the MXT? What are the downsides of each? Thanks guys!

Well, to start off with, are you going to do any beach hunting in wet salt sand ( and more than just a few trips ) ? If so, get the DFX.

It is a multi-frequency machine, disriminates well and don't let the programs fool you. You can sweep it fast, slow and if you want, has tone id ( so targets make different sounds depending on conductivity).

I have one, use it a lot...even on the beaches, but not in the water ( that's what waterproof detectors are for !).

I don't plan on using it much for beach detecting, however I go to Lake Huron each year... How much did yours run you? Is it easy to operate and get used to?

It is easy to operate and get used to. There are tons of options, but I do not adjust most of them. The few I do adjust make it deeper and sensitive...but I always run it stable.

I bought mine a few years ago, and it came with 3 coils...the stock 9.5, the 6x10 DD and the 5.3. Can't remember exactly but it was around $800. It was a used detector...like new with I think 10 or so months left on the warranty. It was a good deal since I got 2 extra coils. Since then, I also bought the Super 12 coil and use that on the beach.

For me, the DFX is a very versatile detector that can hunt in almost any condition.

MXT better depth, easier to use less expensive what more can I say!
