NEW DETECTOR WHICH ONE ?????

St Bernard

New member
I am only about 5 weeks away from ordering a new detector. I am looking at the Whites V3i, Fisher F75 LTD Limited SE, Minelab Safari. I want a good all around detector for all types of detecting including some prospecting for any type of gold flakes or nuggets. I know there are specific detectors for gold but I do not want to go that route instead an all around detector that is versatile. One thing the White4s V3i has is the multi frequency if this is an advantage or not? The ones I have listed any other suggestions other than these three listed I will take a closer look at also. I am in the price range of Under $2000.00. All feedback will be greatly appreciated. I have posted questions in different sections of this forum and have had good feedback and learned about certain detectors. Thanks

Can't look for gold nuggets with the minelab, not sensitive enough.

The V3i is the one I would go for. Has a lot of modes including prospecting. With that price range , you can pic up a few coils. And have it all. Also the headphones are wireless and that's a plus. Shop around , call different dealers who sponsers this site. Look around this site there is a list of sponsers . You will get a awesome deal. GS

Any type of gold hunting I don't think I would pick the Safari and the one Minelab used to make and don't anymore is the Sovereign GT that is the best coin detector and could be used for gold nugget hunting, just not the gold flake as much.
There is a new one out called the Makro Gold Racer that maybe something to look at as it is made for gold hunting plus also has 2 disc modes too, but only 2 tone that may work very good for coin hunting too. Like I say they are new and not real in the Field experience yet, I ordered one in myself, but wont get out with it for a few month so we are waiting for those that can use it and post their opinion on it.

If you want a good all around detector that is very good at prospecting, I suggest that you take a look at the MXT Pro.

Hi Jeff; Thanks for that input. I have also been looking real close at the MXT PRO. I have been reading and watching a lot of videos on it. The Whites factory is only about a 6 hour drive from me and they from what I have read
stand behind there products. I was using a V3i yesterday a friend of mine and it was also a good detector but costly. For what it cost I can have the MXT and a few extra coils and goodies. The Fisher LTD SE is also a good detector and up in price also which I could do. So The MXT PRO seems to be a good fit for the money and can be used for prospecting which I do want.

Thanks for you input and the others that responded . Great forum for good info and truthful responces. Thanks to all

I had a V3i and I ended up trading it at a Whites dealer for the MXT All Pro. It was just too complicated for me. When I made changes I was never sure if I was making it better or worse. The MXT is much simpler for me, and it just finds stuff. I did get rid of the 10" D2 coil, as it was too heavy for me. I now have the Whites 9" spider coil on it. It is lighter in weight, and works really well.

I would look at the Nokta Fors Core pro pack. Or wait and see new offerings that will be coming out from Whites ( MX Sport ) and from Makro/Nokta.

I would recommend that you not go to the very expensive complicated machines for your first one. Truth is, probably 90 to 95 percent or more machines end up in the closet unused after a short initial trial.
There are a lot of terrific machines under a $1000. Do look at the MXT, F70/75, AT Pro, etc.
You can be very successful with many of the more moderately priced machines. After, all the difference in performance between these machines is not nearly as great as you might think.

I finally after a lot of research on reading and suggestions here on this forum I am going with the Fisher F75 LTD SE LIMITED (BLACK) detector. It will do everything I would like it to do and pretty light in weight. I am getting
a couple of extra coils also with it also to cover more ground and also prospecting. There are excellent videos on You Tube on this detector on operating it excellent learning tool. Thanks for all the feedback.

Just get a vintage CZ-5 or an older CZ-3D, serial # starting with1021.You can pick up a nice used CZ-5 for around $300 or so.Its very easy to use and goes deeeeeep! I have several of them and some of them are hitting dimes @ 12"+.Put on the bigger coil and gain a few more inches. Then add a 5" (hockey puck) coil for those trashy areas and you are set.You can most likely get one and all 3 coils for around $500 or so give or take a few bucks.Look at all the money you will save and you will have a great, deep easy to use detector.I have an F-75 with DST and its a great detector. The only advantage it has over my older CZ's is recovery speed, but for raw depth coil for coil you just can't beat an older CZ.Just my 2 cents.
