New detector question

I'm looking into getting a beach and wet sand detector some where around $600, give or take. Is there a brand that's better for this? I don't really care who makes it, I just want the best for my money. Thank you for your time.

The Sovereign GT is in your price range and a great machine on the sand and in shallow surf

You will not regret buying a Sovereign. It is a great all around machine. I would suggest after you buy or as soon as you can afford it get a meter. I love my GT. I own 5 detectors and it is with the exception of my Excal the best machine I own.

I'll second what Kobo and Lawman said. The Minelab Sovereign is about the best machine I've ever seen for walking the beach, wet sand or dry. It's as stable as they come and doesn't have too many bells and whistles, which is what I like. I had an Explorer and though it was top notch, it also had a steep learning curve and all of the features on it seemed like overkill to me. Plus it's heavy. With the Sov chest mounted in the pouch that comes with it you can hunt all day without getting tired. But remember, it isn't waterproof. Not even splash proof so I don't even wade with mine. A rogue wave or a step in a hole could be the kiss of death for it. Good luck and let us know what you decide on. BTW, if you think you might want to get in the water, you might also look at the White's Beach Hunter ID. I've never used one but there are some people here who use them and think they're great. They're waterproof to 25 feet so you wouldn't have to worry about that. I still favor the Sov, though.
