I had no luck today looking for the very expensive tennis bracelet for that lady that is 4 times i tryed some else must of found it oh well !! so today i made a new coin garden much deeper then the one i have now it is 12 inches , in it is a silver quarter, silver dime , LC , small gold ring 14k and a silver ring .925 once i get the 13 detech coil for my GT it will be a good test , by the way i have a new helper Sammy she is a Rat Terrier from England 4 months old a very tenacious field hunting dog if trained right they will dig a mouse or a small animal out of its ground hole , my daughter said she can train it ?? to dig i said  that would be nice in the fields Jim

LOL! Sounds like you've got a great set-up! Good luck with both. I love taking my Collie/Chow mix, Ashley, detecting with me. Your test garden sounds awesome and will make you an even better detectorist. HH. Matt

Oh....I forgot to mention. I have the Detech 13" Ultimate coil on my White's DFX and I love it! I'm sure it will be sweet on the GT and I'll probably get one too when they are more readily available. HH. Matt

Hi Matt did you have a SEF on the DFX before you got the 13" " if so is it any better the SEF goes really deep it will be interesting to see what the Detech 13 does . Jim

Hey Jim, thats what everyone want to know. I am not the best candidate to answer that question. I had the SEF 10x12 on my Sovereign GT and I hated it even tho I knew what a great coil it is. I sold it. Honestly I kinda miss it now; wish I gave it more of a chance. I have the SEF 6x8 for my DFX and I love it! I even had the massive SEF 18x21 for my GT at one time. OMG! Huge! Teach Sammy to sniff out coins! HH. Matt

I've got a huskey famale and she takes trips with me metal detecting in the woods when I know where I'm going to hunt and can tie her to a tree. She always ends up getting bored and digging around trees by the time I'm done. I always thought it would be real easy to train a dog to smell silver and give them treats when they sniff it out under a cup or something. Then I could take her in the woods and just throw a poker chip where she signs and then come back later with my GT to check the spot out. I trained her REAL FAST (one day) to put her nose or paw on a deer shed for a treat when I asked her where the shed was. Shouldn't be any harder for silver. I'm sure they can smell silver much deeper than even modern detectors can detect.

Critter...I'm just happy to have my pup outside with me. I thought about teaching her to sniff out metal....haha! She's my best friend and I'm just glad to have her with me. She wont run away....30 yards max. If she loses sight of me she freaks! She has a lot of influence on where I hunt because I love her and want to let her out and run around while I do my thing. Her name is Ashley and she is a 10 yr old collie mix from the SPCA. HH. Matt

That 6x8 is another coil hard to find for the Sov. i don't think ill swing a 18x21 coil geeezz !!! not long anyway , did you know that fresh dug old silver coins has a slight sulfur smell so i guess dogs might detect it . Jim HH

There is no 6x8 SEF for Sov. I'm so bummed. I would buy one in a second. I didn't know about that smell of coins. Wouldn't that be cool to have a poooch who could take you to a find? Anyway...I don't care if my dog can do anything...she is my best friend and I love having her along for the hunt. HH. Matt

Did you sanitize the soil of other targets before you put the test targets in the dirt? If not you may have a problem with masking and you wont be able to properly determine the worth of your coil or set your machine up. Even things as small as staples will block targets. You want the normal minerlization that will occur long term minus anything you didnt intentionally put there. That makes it a valid standard for any detector used there. Distance between targets, EMI, or LARGE items like that fence may also affect your reading randumly during the day.

Yea, no 8x6 for the Sovereign. I've read of guys getting 10" on a coin with their SE or Etrac using that coil, but I'm sure that was in good ground. Really I don't care for small coils shaped like this to try to increase depth while retaining separation. Seems kind'a counter productive when you are going to a small coil to increase separation. I'm more concerned about max separation and not as much about depth so I want the smallest round coil I can find, and for me that's the S-5 which is 5.5" in size. While I have no doubt the 8x6 really compressed the width of the detection line like the 12x10, being 8" long it still has more potential for masking targets than say a 6" round coil. Not saying it isn't a fantastic coil, though, or that it doesn't have deadly separation, but as said I want the best separation both length and width wise so for me that's a round coil when it comes to going small for heavy trash. I've read reviews in the Etrac/Explorer forums on all the small coils out there and some say the X5 (FBS S-5 version) is better then them all in terms of max separation abilities, but still that 8x6 is VERY popular among them.
