New deep scan coil..

List is $250--It is on sale lower price TILL christmas---I have it--It will be a MUST HAVE LOOP for most of us---DeathWind1

Deathwish are the 1400 Deep Scan Coils available yet?
Thanks for any info. I am like you I think this is a must have.

I just got mine, and tested it against several other coils, both White's and aftermarket. The 14" White's DD outperformed all of them. Many dealers will be getting their stock in this week. HH jim

Jim, when you say "out permormed all of them" in what catagory? The small 5" coils? the 3x6 dd? or which? Is this the absolute one coil that will replace all the others? I have the standard 9" and have bought a 5" excelerator. Should I get this new coil(8x14)and do away with the rest. I don't mean to be sounding comtemptuous but being a retired person on limited budget I take seriously what is said on the MXT forum since I am new at this and have no other source of info.

I would think he meant coils that size or bigger--They are sold NOW

that competes well perhaps against all of the standard size and larger coils from White's or ANY aftermarket coil.
Definitely hang onto the 5" EXcelerator coil, however, as it will handle a wide variety of applications the DD1400 and other larger coils can't tackle. I feel it is the best smaller-sized coil for the MXT. Actually, the best all purpose coil, unless you want coverage, and perhaps a little extra depth.

.... the new 14" DD, plus the 6x4 DD, 10x6 DD, "stock" 950 concentric, and Excellerator 14" DD. For the results of my tests, see my post "White's 14" Coil: First Impressions" on the Treasure Depot White's Forum, Friday, Oct. 8, at 3:15pm. In MY soil, the 14" DD outperformed all the others. If you need some more depth, and a lot more ground coverage at depth, the 14" White's is a winner. HH jim

.... I view each different size/type of coil as a "specialty" coil with it's own particular strengths and weaknesses. The astute detectorist carefully analyzes their own detecting needs, and gets those coil(s) best suited for those needs. The stock 950 coil is a fine coil, and covers most uses. I note that you have a 5" Excellerator, from which I deduce that you hunt very trashy sites. In such cases a larger coil would NOT be the coil of choice. It may well be that the 14" DD from White's is NOT well suited for your particular needs; that is something that you will have to determine for yourself. For those who CAN use a larger coil, for both greater depth, and to obtain excellent ground coverage, the 14" DD from White's is certainly a winner. Hope this helps; best wishes and HH. Jim

Andrew, in the Prospecting mode, I found that the 14" White's DD could find nuggets as small as 1/4 grain. That is about half the size of an average sesame seed. As far as coins are concerned, it gives as good a signal as the 950. As far as pinpointing is concerned, inasmuch as it is a DD coil, pinpointing is a bit more difficult than the concentric 950. In my opinion, the 14" White's DD will be a boon for those who want greater depth at not-so-very-trashy sites, and for gold prospecting. In he latter category, I predict that the MXT, fitted with the 14" DD, will immediately prove very popular in the Australian and Western American gold fields. HH jim

You guys are GREAT!!! I not only got the answer I needed for my MXT on the small DD coil above on another question posted, but you have answered my second on the large coil I needed to look at for gold nugget hunting in tailings etc. THANKS I will be looking for this new coil. <img src="/metal/html/biggrin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":D">
