New CZ70 User and needing help

Ok, I've been TH for just about 30 years now using every make and model there is. I just picked up a CZ70 from another forum and everything seems to be working fine with one exception. I took the machine out for the first time this morning and tried to use the "pushbutton" GB method. When I keep one finger on the SEARCH/PINPOINT button and rotate the Ground control back from 10, I'm not getting a tone at all. I'm setting up just as the manual says but nothing. I'm used to using a machine with at least a "hum" so silent searching can get a bit worrysome. I did pick up some targets this morning, but I'm worried that I'm not really dialed in since I'm not hearing a "threshold". If anybody can offer some advice I would really appreciate it.

rollie29,
Try the bobbing method to ground balance it. It is also described in the manual. That way you will have a threshold tone to work with while you ground balance it.
Cheers,

Put the detector in Autotune all metal mode and find a clean piece of ground. Next, raise and lower the coil while turning ground balance back from 10. This works the best for me on my CZ 3D. I hope this helps.

Find clean ground (no targets), I use zero disc because it's more sensitive than autotune/allmetal on my cz.

Set to auto tune, crank up the sens, turn up the volume so you can hear the threshold. Raise and lower coil continously 3" to 12" + or - above the ground, adjust the GB till the sound is the same/equal going up or down.

After you GB, set the volume and sens to your likeing, then take it out of autotune last. If you take it out of autotune into disc before you lower volume & sens, you may hurt your ear drums if you happen to hit a target nearby.

If there is very little knob adjustment, (clockwise or counterclockwise, back and forth) to ballance the sound, the ground is more on the hot side,,, and visa versa.
