New CTX owner question

If the headphone module on the machine is not waterproof what are you supposed to do. Is there something that goes in its place that makes it waterproof? THanks

nevermind, I figured it out. You stick that little extra screw thing in the plug where the module plugs in. BINGO!

NO! THAT IS NOT WATERPROOFING! The only way to have waterproof headphone option is to get a set that screws onto the audio connector. What you are talking about is nothing more than a dust plug for the 1/4" headphone plug.

Is there available a waterproof plug that is nothing more than a waterproof plug? Such as the plug attached to my Grey Ghost's waterproof headphones but without the cable? If so, could someone provide a link for it?

Go Blue, I discovered the same thing, that the CTX technically is not waterproof because of the headphone module. What I did not know that Jason pointed out was that the "dust plug" does not waterproof it. I thought it did. Jason is correct as the manual says the plug is to protect the phone connection from dust and sand. I am back to square one and not happy as I dropped a good bit of cash for a waterproof machine. So now we gotta spend $150 to $200 for waterproof phones. Anyone know of a fix to make the plug waterproof?

You don't need waterproof headphones to go in the water....but you need them if you want to hear the audio response when you go under water. Standard headphones, removable headphone module and WM 10 module are not waterproof. Here is a link to a video made by one of the MInelab Engineers, demonstrating how to use the screw cap. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DG2PfCnSbds

Thanks for the post Digger, but it still does not indicate that the screw cap is waterproof. He only says the screw cap will protect the phone connection from sand and grit. When he dunks the CTX he is using the waterproof phones. It might be okay if it gets splashed, but I don't think you would want to dunk it. So, the question remains, is there a way to make the phone connection screw cap waterproof?

It’s a “waterproof audio jack” that you can connect waterproof headphones to. It’s not a “waterproof screw cap”. The screw cap is for keeping the connector pins clean.

The connector is waterproof in itself and taking the CTX 3030 underwater without the protective cap will not damage the detector. As I said, the audio connector is waterproof and control box has a seal that is designed to keep water from getting into the control box electronics. Not the screw cap you put on the audio connector. However, if you don't use underwater headphones and don't put on the screw cap on the waterproof connector, you may contaminate the connector (contacts) with sand or grit. If those contacts become dirty, you may get intermittent audio when you do hook up the waterproof headphones or put the headphone module back on. Therefore, it is recommended that if you remove the headphone module, you either install the screw cap into the waterproof audio connector or use waterproof headphones, when you are using the CTX in the water.
