New CTX owner - new case arrived

Northeaster

New member

Had to protect my 3030 -

Case is still a work in progress.

SKB gun case - 240.00 from the bay site

I love it.......

Great work Northeaster! Here is my 3030 in a custom cut SKB case as well. The cables are in a slot that is cutout between the 1st and second layer of foam - between the screen and the arm rest. It's traveled to 5 different countries with zero damage....in Japan now!

There are three (3) layers of solid foam on the bottom; two (2) pieces that are 2" thick and one piece that is 1" thick. I laid the detector on the foam, traced it with a black sharpie, used a thin utility knife razor blade (4") to punch through the foam and saw out the pattern - then I finished it up by spray painting the foam with Krylon Fusion indoor/outdoor paint. Very easy to do - takes about 30 minutes from start to finish if you are taking your time. I use the same cases to store my rifles - custom cut that foam too. The case is air tight, waterproof and lockable!

Specifications: SKB iSeries 4217 Mil-Spec AR / Short Rifle Case

Interior Length: 42.50"
Interior Width: 17.00"
Interior Depth: 7.50"
Carton Length: 45.50"
Carton Width: 20.00"
Carton Depth: 9.00"
Shipping Weight: 27.00 lbs

I have been looking at something for travel protection. Since you have been doing a lot with yours, have you ever been charged for an oversize item? This case is well outside the "allowable" dimensions, and one airline says oversize (not overwieght) luggage is a $200 extra charge. So I am nervous about spending the money for a case that might cost a LOT more down the road.

Thank you.. I love yours .. i saw yours and another online and had to get one..Great protection and looks bad a**.:super:

I will be ordering different color foam after i make a table top hot wire cutter, I really want it to have a perfect finish look, just like you have accomplished, your is a work of art.

I travel a lot also, flights and on ground and needed to protect this 3030 right away, as it will always be with me where ever I go.. Yep I'm addicted already..

Just go bold with the color and paint the stock foam with the Krylon paint. I used silver and blue and they covered great. Regarding extra baggage fees....I fly Delta exclusively and I have never been charged an extra fee for the case...but I am a PLATINUM member...at least until next year....they changed the rewards program again. Time to start looking for a new favorite carrier.

Love the cases. I'm definitely going to attempt replicating your efforts. Where might I get one of those cases? I'm a complete new guy, but I'm hooked already. Thanks so much in advance.

JB

See above as to where i purchased mine. Or do a search for had cases. Be very patient cutting the foam . Many ways to do it.

SKB gun case

43"x18"

I love the case easy to travel with and great protection, room for all the necessities.

Keeps everything in place no matter how rough the trip is.

I purchased mine off eBay.. no regrets at all.
