Well it showed yesterday. Thanks Bart it is a great machine. I have loads to learn but I think it might be easier than I thought. Well I can hope can't I !
Have been studying the manual and a lot of info. On this and other sites for two weeks and after getting the machine in hand I found that the controls/setting will be easier than I thought.

Now the first question.

I plan to work in the stock coin program for the most part until i learn the machine but I also programmed in target trace with a wide open screen patern 2 Is there a reason that I should into try to learn the machine with it set so?

Thanks guys

I think an open screen is a good idea to use most of the time, unless there is a lot of junk in the ground. It is the best way to learn the machine, test its recovery speed, and understand what is telling you with targets. Try GoneHuntings programs. I use his Orginal Combined, and #2 Combined, along with his Multitone coin, just bout everywhere I go.

I think starting in the factory default coin and pattern 1, is a good place to learn. You can learn and modify as you go. I am new to the CTX3030, so take my advice for what it`s worth. Good luck.

I'm a noob to minelab machines also. Seems as though you gotta take this learning thing in baby steps. Just when I think I got it wired something does not go the way I thought it should.

Received Gary Draytons book "Beach Hunting With The CTX". Read the entire book last night. Lots of tidbits on using the CTX that re not explained very well in the owners manual.
For twenty bucks it's a great reference book.

Target trace is a neat feature. I did my own tests with scrap iron, rusty screws screw caps and pull tabs next and on top of a good target. Try your own test, lots to learn there.

That wasn't a lame question concerning target trace. That feature is something you may want to tackle when you are more comfortable with how your machine functions.
Target trace is pretty straight forward. It let's you know if there is junk in or around a good target or is your suspected good target is really junk. That's the way I see it

Try a bottle cap and see what it looks like. Then try a coin and a bottle cap together. That my clear things up for you.
