New CTX 3030 Day 2 Beach Hunting Dry Sand

This is my second day using my new CTX at the beach. About the same number of clad coins as yesterday, picture shows todays finds after searching around 40 fire pits at the beach, and found several clad coins and one silver plated chain. I was using the default beach mode, the CTX seems to do very well discriminating out the iron nails. Today I ran my first geo hunt, and marked a few find points to see how it worked-cool. I dug everything in the accept range, I did dig several junk target 'clones' ie pull tabs, and some melted aluminum cans', and some melted ferrous junk, but as we all know could have been good stuff.

I have been detecting for several years off and on for over 25 years, but for the last three years beach hunting regularly 6 hours a week, using Garrett Beach hunter, and GTI 2500.

Some positive observations about my new CTX - beach hunting/ dry or wet
Solid target ID'sin the accept range, as well as in the reject range, well balance reduces hand and arm fatigue, pin pointing is right on, wireless headphones, Gps/Geo hunt and find and way points could come in handy, and the clock gets me home on time for breakfast, and pride of ownership owning a Minelab, among several othe features.

Some negative observations about my new CTX
Way too many little holes, and crevices for beach use, especially when theres alot of wave action suspending sand in the water. At this point I can only comment on dry sand hunting, but no matter how careful you are to keep the sand off the detector, it will get on it and it seems to find its way to all do the holes and crevices of the CTX. that little hole in the hand grip on top is one spot and I am unsure of its purpose but a sand magnet, same with the electronics module where it attaches, the battery slide area, and wireless module. when using the wireless module you need to plug that headphone plug to keep the sand and ocean mist or rain out,any sand that gets in the shaft will create a real prob when removing the shaft to clean it. All I can say is clean your detector after every use at the beach, a small paint brush to brush away any Sand stuck in the cracks, rinse with water, then double check to be sure all of the slide points are clean.

I plan to make a wet suit for my CTX for water use to keep sand out, one for the electronics and one for the display.

In summary, so far I am very happy with the purchase of my CTX, and I will work-around the sand issue.

NOTE- looks like I may not be Able to upload my picture, so posting without the picture

I would agree we need some kind of plug to seal up the head phone plug on the wireless module. The rest is water proof so just hosing it down should be enough.

They make some dry bags that will let you put your wireless module in and seal it from water/sand/whatever. They have an internal earphone jack that then is connected to a sealed jack to plug into on the outside of the bag. They are made for cell phones and work perfectly. You can find them on ebay.

That little hole on the top side of the grip and about 2" below the screen, allows the air to escape when the shaft is filling with water. I agree about using a rubber plug or something to fill the headphone jack, when using the wireless setup. It still won't make the unit waterproff, but, as you mentiuoned, would keep dirt, sand, and moisture from getting into that removable headphone module.
