new compadre air test on gold ring

turned it on in the house and was hardly any chatter. could have been a dirty or oxidized switch and use has cleaned it up some.
its hard filming with one hand and air testing with the other, i couldn't get the ring in the center of the coil lol

when i did hit the sweet spot, it rang out nice and clear on the ring at nine inches, that's pretty good i think for a 160 buck detector.
please don't mind the counter or the dog food in the corner, my girls get a little wild when i get home (Chihuahuas)

nice

How about the AT Pro at 14" ?

I'm a little PO'd about the Tesoro fan club. I started on Tesoro but when they fell behind I moved on. I still have the Compadre, as a backup for my AT Pro, but I'm not happy with its lack of depth. What makes me PO's is I used to have a Silver uMAx but when it didn't perform like I felt any detector should, I was told it was something to do with the type of circuit and it was the Compadre that was all the rage. I bought a Compadre with the 8" coil and when I stated I wasn't happy with the response or depth, as the hype made it out to be, I was told it was because I had the 8" coil and it was the small coil that all the rave was about. So, I buy a Compadre with the small coil and now I'm told it is the 8" coil everyone raves about. PFT!!!

The Compadre is a great detector for the money and that is it. Sorry, telling it like I see it.

I think a more fair comparison would be an ace 150/250 than the at pro, use what you like, I don't have a wife that will let me spend 15 to 20 thousand dollars on detectors.
I for one am happy to have spent 160 and can reliably detect 6 to 7 inches in the dirt. I may up grade later on to a high dollar machine.
You see, I did the xlt's and the Garrett's and got tired of the hobby.
At the moment, I'm having fun with the little compadre and feel that I got my money's worth.
Buy what you want but don't expect a 160 detector to compete with a 594.95 dollar unit, that's 3.70 x the money, is the at pro almost 4 times the detector the compadre is?
To you it may be, to me it's not. If I had 600 to spend on a detector, I would look at a tejon.

I feel that you are angry at Tesoro, and those that like them. I'll help you out, if that compadre has the 5.75 inch coil I'll give you a 100 bucks for it.

Your best bet with any depth issues on any machine is to use your own judgement, not what everyone says what it can and can not do through the internet. If we were to believe everything that everyone says about the many machines out there, then we would have a very big arsenal of equipment and very empty wallets.

That isnt a small ring at all. Its not just the weight of an object but the size and that loop size is on the large size.

Depth is not everything. i cannot dig 14 inch holes where we are a hair from being banned anyhow. the trash seperation is most important in urban type parks frequented by scummy trash people. i hate litter and beverage waste (tabs and screw caps--all aluminum, zinc filled bottle caps from beer too). like said above, its a judgement, preference, weight, cost, type of hunting, and conditions decision. i have always used Tesoro. i am down to a Silver Sabre Plus which i will always have. I recently sold my beloved Eldorado to a forum member and it was a solid performer, depth wise etc... and my Amigo II went to another friend on the other side of the US who is a tot lotter sand boxer. it should find the gold earrings fine. it will, have found them. i know use Whites MXT due to needing digital readout and at least two tones and an iron grunt due to hearing loss and i cannot easily decipher the nuances in a single tone machine. just a few tones i can tell the difference though. the AT pro is impressive, as well as friends Eurotek pro. i do have two Compass projects in the making. i will always love Tesoro for simplicity and performance and wish them well in the future. i am sure they will make that happy machine and become the rage again. hopefully at an affordable price.

I think a lot do!

When I see signatures with all kinds of high end detectors, I can't help but wonder why. Are they necessary? Or are they the result of internet hype?

I've had my fair share of machine I bought because of hype, and was quickly disappointed.

I would love to see an experiment conducted where you take one person with one machine, say a Vaquero, and another person with 6 machines (take your pick) and monitor their success over a specific time period, say 1 year, with the amount of detecting time being equal. Who would have more success? Would the guy with one machine know that machine so well that he would triumph? Or would the guy with 6 machines to learn, and constant swapping between them over the year come out ahead?

What I have is not a large ring, it's not a ladies wedding band, but it's not huge either. The coil is the standard 8 inch that comes on the compadre.

In my case it's a matter of testing the hype. My plan from the time I buy a detector is only to test it and then sell it unless I find it meets the hype. Now my current collection, which is really 4 detectors, the AT Pro I keep because it meets the hype in my opinion, best gold/tot lot machine I've owned yet, the DFX I keep as a backup simply because I got a good buy on it and I love the DFX's target ID system. The Compadre I bought as a backup to loan out and I have a Garrett ADS 4 I keep just to remind me of the good old days. Personally I put the CTX 3030 & E-Trac at the top of my lest as the deepest coin machines. The reason I don't have one is I always sell my deep coin machines at the end of the season because they just set in the closet from October to April. I use the money for other things and buy again in the spring. I also really like the V3i but it isn't quite as accurate on the ID'ing on the extremely deep coins as say the CTX or E-Trac.

Really I think all the testing is done daily and all you need to do is look at the different forums to see the results. Some forums are ALWAYS full of people posting great coin finds and some are full of people making claims of how great their detector is. Some are full of people asking how to set their detectors up. It isn't hard to see what walks the walk and what doesn't. I've tested many myself and found it to be true to my results. Just look at who's finding the goods.

I like to see at pro comparison to tejon. they both around 600 that be fair comparison

You see the problem I have with that concept is I put way more value on a good target ID system to even consider spending a lot of money for a detector without one. Just not my style of hunting anymore. And to be honest, I've found most any detectors get about the same depth if they have the same type/size coil, it is the features that separate them. I've gotten a lot more selective in my old age and I demand a detector that can meet those needs.

I know it isn't fair comparing a 5.7" coil to a 11" coil or a $160 detector to a $600 (I actually only gave $400 for my AT Pro but then I only gave $125 for my Compadre) but the point is you get what you pay for. People say the Compadre is fantastic, for the money, when really you can buy a Bounty Hunter with the same depth, target ID and tones for $30 less. So while it used to be true is WAS a great detector for the money. What I do give the Compadre is it is the king of light weight machines hands down.

Please stop the belly aching.. I don't care who has what or how darn much anyone paid for it. I hunt with about 4 different people. Everyone has a different detector. We don't give a da<< who has what. There are mine labs,, whited ,, garrets.. And my compadre... WE all go out and have fun. Sure some are deeper than others... I don't care.. The other day 3 of us were in a woods. We all found items. I found a V nickel and an Indian head about 3" deep.. So what.. All the detectors I know of would have found that. It just happened that my small coil went over the target. We get done hunting, we go and have coffee together and see who can tell the biggest story,, Than we laugh... We all enjoy each others company. It is great to have fun together... I wish we all could have fun together. I will hunt with any of you. I don't care what you use. Lets just have a good time and do it again someday... Good luck to all of us this next season. And I hope your coil does gover something great... KEN

WE all go out and have fun.

Couldn't agree more!

I'm not belly aching I'm simply trying to make this Friday a little more interesting. I've said it before, Tesoro owners have got to be the most compassionate bunch there is. And that includes me. I love my Compadre and have no plans to sell it. Just wanted to bring out the passion in the dedicated bunch.

X2 well said Ken

I own the AT Pro as well as a Tesoro Bandito II Micro max and a Compadre which I recently aquired due to all the rage . Although I have not had a chance to really use it much due to personal health issue at this time . I did use it about two weeks and found it to be exacklty what it is a turn on and go detector . It is light weight as most tesoros it has the 5.75 coil and is in mint condition as well . Almost sold it one time but seems everyone wants to offer way less than what the machine is worth. So when I do get a chance to take it out and give it a run then I will determine if it is one that will serve me in the type of environment that I hunt in . as for as coin hunting I have found it to be just that a coin hunter as for as Relic it has its limits I would guess but until I take it out and use it relic hunting I will not judge it . All detectors have their limits for sure but I have found that the person swinging them also do as well if you dont learn what it is saying then yuo will not do well with it . I can say for a fact that I took My At Pro once and had a Tesoro Silver Micro Max spank me because I did not quite have the Gound Balnce set right and missed a Slight tone that my Grandson heard on his Tesoro and popped out a very nice token JMHO though! Good hunting to all and I hope to have a better year next year once pass this Big C problem

Barryl ,good luck on your surgery . Ive been shut down twice the past three years.Had a prostatectomy three years ago and last year a serious arm injury [ tore the bicep off the bone]. I found swinging a metal detector and getting up and down a lot, great therapy and exercise. My arm is back to 100 percent and the lightweight Vaquero played a big part in its recovery. Now Im wanting a 8" Compadre. I plan on paying for it with the clad I find.

Still wondering how this became a mine is bigger then yours post! I must not be getting something.

I didnt say it was a huge ring but by what Ive found I would class that one as large. I only responded to this because you said in your vid that its a small ring. when I get a chance later I will post some rings, different sized ones and show you what a small ring really is. Women generally have much thinner fingers than men and the smaller rings are usually womens or kids rings. I am referring to the diameter.
I would say a huge ring would be a mens class ring or that type.
The compadre looks like a nice machine for the price no matter what coil is on it. I had one years ago but then the stock coil was a 7" white concentric coil.
