New coin master GT

My fiancée bought me my first metal detector ( the coin master GT) for father's day and I'm real excited and can't wait till it gets here. I've done a lot of reading on it and have watched few videos but I would like to hear others peoples opinions on the machine and learn what I can expect.

I'm also new to the forum and would like to introduce myself to the group. I'm Willmac

read the manual completely, use the MD, read the manual completely, use the metal detector, read the manual completely, at this point you will probably have gained all that there is to gain from it.
Now use it a bit more and then read this
Great info on coils and what is under the ground

Then this as you will experience halos
Targets that vanish when you try and dig them up

One more thing, do not discriminate anything. Learn all the tones as they will help you know what is trash and what is not.

Welcome to the forum and the detecting world, read the manual and dont expect to learn everything about the detector in say a day or so,i am still learning new things about my DFX and that is nearly 14 years old, always something new to learn and over time the grasp what the detector is telling you.

Another thing is when you get your 1st detector most folks want to crank all the settings upto maximum, this is not advisable as your detector will start to run very erratic and you could loose interest very quickly, just take it slowly at 1st,also get some basic everyday coins and some nails and place them on the lawn or some location that is way from interference or possible trash and then pass the coil over each item this will help you learn the various tones on what is a good or a bad target.

Good luck with the new detector.

Willmac, welcome to the forum and congratulations on your new GT. I had one a few years back and was pleased with it's performance-ease of use. As one of the other posters said, set your sensitivity at about 3/4 or slightly lower. When you get a good signal, check it from several angles. The rule of thumb with most detectors is if the signal remains consistent from most angles, it should be a good target. Practice pinpointing. Bury different coins in the ground at about 4 inches and put a wooden golf tee directly on top of them. Use your pinpoint button to zero in on the coin which is marked by the tee. Now for the most important practice to follow. Dig small plugs and learn the three side "hinged plug" method to retrieve your targets. You will get fooled more times than you get a coin or good target, so ALWAYS pick up this trash and dispose of properly. Good luck and enjoy this rewarding hobby.

You are going to enjoy that CM GT! Like the guys said, start off experimenting, then as you learn the tones and sites you are at you can try bringing up the sensitivity. Stock coil for all around and maybe a small one for the trashy sites you should be good to go. Good luck!

Thank you everyone for your welcoming, insights and suggestions, I will sure to utilize them. I look forward to my CM GT arriving so I can begin my detecting.

While you wait, here is the manual, give it a read through now, everything will make more sense as you unbox and assemble.
