New coils for Xterras

There is a story going round of new coils for the exterras to be released soon. Is this fact or fantasy. There are obvious gaps in the coil choice eg a 10 inch DD eliptical 7khz would be a good one for getting into tight spots for coins. Another good choice would be a lighter 10 inch DD round coil. It is surprising when one of the selling points is the machines lack of weight, and they build a heavy brick like DD coil, which is to the same mold and weight a the old Explorer coil which has been reduced in weight couple of times over the years on that machine. der! I would like to see some larger eliptical coils mainly for covering more ground eg for beaches or relic hunting, but then again they would not want to be too heavy. Hopefully Minelab will let some other manufacturers build some better coils for these machines sometime soon. seeya Neilo

I heard the same thing. No details on what or when, if ever. However, I was told that maybe I should delay ordering a 70 for a little while. Who knows.

How about a lightweight round 14" DD for prospecing, etc.

"However, I was told that maybe I should delay ordering a 70 for a little while." WHY IS THAT ??

I e mailed Minelab about making larger coils for the X-70. They replied they were not going to make larger coils due to sensitivity problems a larger coil would cause. Maybe Minelab is going to change the stock coil to something better like the slimline coil that just came out for the SE. Time will tell.

Good hunting, John K

OP: If you're asking whether or not the discussion of new coils are Fact or Fantasy, then you probably should have labeled your thread more appropriately.

Every time I log in to the X-Terra page, it looks like there's an announcement for new X-Terra coils. I'd like someone to edit this thread title.

This subject is just speculation that was started on another forum. Until Minelab make it apparent (they have made no such announcement), it's business as usual.

Cheerio.

I got the same reply about larger coils from Minelab awhile back. I now believe them after I started using the 10.5 HF coil and can see how a larger coil for the X-Terra line just may be too bloody sensitive for general use. I am finding small tiny metal objects at depth with the 10.5 HF coil as it is and this is on saltwater sand.

I would love to see something like the new Explorer SE Pro coil on the X-Terra since I've heard some really good overall feedback in regards to separation and stability about this coil. Just have to see what Minelab has up their sleeves...:)

cheers...Keith
