I know that it is a bit soon, but, has anybody ordered or used one of teh new coils? I am primarily interested in the 5.75 widescan and would like to know how the 3x18 works.

Administrator: Would it be possible to put a sticky message on this topic?

I talked to a local dealer today and he has a shipment due in today. Tomorrow I'll check up to see if any of the newer coils arrive. When I bought the Tejon last month, I also got the 575 to go along with the stock 9x8. He stated the the newer 575 DD is being asked for more than the 3x18. The 3x18 is for working open areas for a wider sweep rather than more depth. I'll be more curious on the new 575 as I work trash areas and some mineralization. My last hunt had so much iron trash that I had to remove the stock 9x8 and go with the 575. I sure hope the newer 575 DD is worth it. Since I have two Tesoro's, the Tejon and Cibola, having two 575 coils would be ok with me.

Having had the old 5.75 on a Vaquero, really impressive in the trash, I was wondering if the 5.75 widescan was better worse or an even trade in the trash. I do want to get another Vaquero this year and will fit it out with a small coil, just which one?

Thanks for the promise, I am looking forward to hearing about it.

Wide scan coils typically get no better depth than their concentric counterparts, unless you have mineralized soil. DD coils see through mineralization better. If your soil conditions are mild with minimal mineralization, you probably wouldnt see any improvement over the concentric coil.
