NEW COIL

How do you think the T2 will work when a small coil come out. IF they do it right will it be the best thing since sliced bread? I am waiting for that to happen to see how it does...from what I read it does a super job with the standard coil. Will it even be faster and see more targets? Very little masking? And what do you think they will come out if they make a new detector. Something even better or a whole new concept or a step down? Would love to hear what you guys think.

After hunting the last 2 times in difficult soil (GB at 60) with lots of targets I welcome a smaller coil. I'm really surprised at how well the stock coil works though. The problem is, even when I rotate 90 degrees to check the target from cross ways, I almost always get new signals thrown in. The machine is quick enough the way it is though, but a smaller coil would have helped me considerably thus far. I (We) don't need the depth in trash, so I don't feel like I would lose anything. It is nice to hit a clear patch and turn the sensitivity up though (for that added depth). I'm still learning to lower that sensitivity to the 40 to 60 range. The depth on this detector falls off sharply (no testing, just an observation from field use) compared to my Nauty IIB. I'm saying this based on signal response over targets in trash, where I lowered the sensitivity.

Lets face it, hunting in trash and regular hunting are two very different animals (sounds funny if you don't know we are talking about detecting  ). But, that said, I'm glad the coil isn't out yet as I want to see (ok, be forced) to find out the cababilities of this detector with stock in trash. The people who designed this detector know thier stuff, I'm riding some faith, no complaints.

Good question lcpm,

It will be hard to imagine what it will be like. There is no masking now with the stock coil. Better pinpoint control would be good for me, others don't seem to have a problem. But I hunt farmfields it would still be nice to hit it dead on. Getting threw thick brush, like hay stubble and around rocks would also be a plus. I would be more inclinded to hunt some parks with a small coil.
The next Teknetics will be a step up. Dave Jonson said to me in an email once. "As we continue to make our drive into the high end metal detecting market."

You're right Jeff,

Lawrenzo, Jeff is right about the T-2's stock coil, As big as it is and as good separation it gets it's hard to imagine what a smaller coil would do on separation, This large coil gets down between the cracks of iron trash that I find it hard to see an improvement on separation with a smaller coil.

The only advantage I would see with a smaller coil is easier access between the twigs and bush or sidewalk demos etc, Areas smaller coils can get into to scrub the ground were larger coils can't fit into. That's the only advantage I see the smaller coil having, The larger stock coil is going to be hard to improve on separation.
