New coil

Hey guys, was thinking about buying a new 8.5 x11 DD search coil for my gtp1350,as my stock coil is quite beat up. Could some of you guys explain to me some of the advantages and disadvantages of this coil. I have read that this coil loves bottle caps,is this true? Will I still get imaging out of this coil? Thanks for any input.

It goes deeper for sure. It gets the depth of a 12-13" concentric coil. I have one on my 2500 and I love it! Wish it would Image, but thats ok...Its deep. And handles hot ground REALLY well.

I have used the Ace and the GTI but not the 1350. The shape of the 1350's coil I found on the Ace made it a real sweet coil to pinpoint with, plus the audio fade as you go off the target. It's a light coil and being concentric, is a lot less likely to be fooled by iron targets. That said, if it behaves like the 5x10 DD coil of the GTI then this is what I experienced. You have better audio. You can here the width difference on targets that are smaller than screw caps. You have better target separation. Yes steel crown caps can sound good, it seems a lot of US detectorist seem to have trouble with that. I'm an Aussie and our coins are different. That said, we still have coins in the area of crown caps.I hunted in an area that was utterly infested with crown caps while using the 5x10. They are noticeably less consistent than coins. The other key thing to remember. An iron target will always give a low tone as it leaves the detection field. A coin doesn't do that.
The 1350 has profiling and not imaging like the GTI's. Profiling works with all coils, unlike the GTI's which need the imaging coils to work. Although the 8.5x11 is a new coil, I can only assume that the profiling will work with it still. I have no reason to think otherwise. You can always contact your local dealer and confirm that or someone else can chime in and confirm that for you.
Mick Evans.

Yes, they do love bottlecaps, but you can identify them quite easily. When you hit a good belltone target, switch over to Zero Disc and you will hear the low tone with the high tone, signaling a bottlecap. Your profileing will work with the DD, no problem. Nice coil, takes a little getting used to.

Thanks for the responses guys,I think I'm gonna bite the bullett and buy the new coil.Hey Hollandsbrook, cool post,do you think the 10"x14" coil is a better option.I do a lot of dry sand, saltwater beach hunting.I also do a lot of relic hunting in the woods of Massachusetts. That 10"x14" must be a beast to swing for any length of time, lol.

Haha yea I've never swung it myself - the regular DD coil is heavy enough for me! The larger coil is likely best for you to cover maximum ground. You'll also get greater depth from it too.

The new DD will go deeper than the 10x14 coil....per its design...(blunted tip and tail).
