New coil wanted

Hi everyone! New to the form. Would like some help deciding on a new coil. Thinking on sef 10x12 or a pro coil. I have read on other post that the sef doesn't work well on small targets. Has any one seen this? I have an se and look for CW relics and work old house sites. I have the stock 10.5 coil that the se came with but don't like it. Thanks for your help!

I chose the Pro coil and I am very happy with it. Both the coils you mentioned are very similar, I think you would be pleased with either. I know my Pro coil gets all sorts of tiny rivets and junk (more than I'd like!) at decent depths. I would recommend the Pro coil for the types of hunting you are doing.

Im using the SEF and i cant tell you how many tiny objects ive had to use the X1 to find. It does a fine job for me, but ive also heard the Pro is a little more sensitive and lighter. Butttttttt.... check out the difference in price, about $50 from Kelleyco. Not being a relics hunter i dont know how important those tiny items are. You cant go wrong with either over the slimline.

I just dug a tiny metal grommet at 8" deep, big around as a pea....using the SEF coil....reason that I dug was because it hit like the silver dimes I'm diggen at that depth. Price was an influence when I bought that coil.

I have both the pro coil and the SEF 12x10. I run the SEF because it separates better, and it is good with smaller objects, despite what you may have heard. It's a bit heavier so if weight is an issue go with the pro coil as this is still a fine coil. But if the extra weight is not an issue and you want the best overall coil, my choice would be the SEF.

LilloEsquilo - how much extra weight is the SEF vs the pro?

Do you know the weight difference between the slimline and the SEF?

I have all 3 but never actually weighed them all I can tell you is by feel, but honestly the slimline is not any lighter to me than the pro coil is, and frankly, I think I have one of the initial batch that was not right as it falses constantly unless you reduce the sensitivity to single digits - mine was freaking out at a sensitivity of 10.

To me, the SEF was not that much worse than the pro coil but everyone is different. I don't use fast sweeps anyway as I'm looking for deeper stuff in trash. So for me it wasn't a problem, but that won't be true for everyone. But it is heavier than the pro coil. If weight is an issue go with the pro coil, if it's not I'd say you will like the SEF a lot.

Thanks for the info..... SEF sound like the way to go. At times I do get the flasing and have to adjust my sens, but not in the single digits.

So if the slim line is not lighter than the Pro coil and the SEF is not lighter than the Pro coil. Then I can say the slim line and the SEF are about equal in weight. right? :nerd:
