new coil or new detector

I'm trying to decide if buying the 13" ultimate coil for my omega is going to be worth the cost of the coil or if I should just keep adding to that money and buy a new detector. I haven't been a fan of the omega since I bought it. I like all the functions but I really don't like the elliptical coil and then there is the issue of EMI interference. I'm thinking that the larger coil would come in handy for searching parks and schools in the less trashy areas (and the added depth might not hurt in those area's I've already hunted numerous times), and some of the area's soccer fields. On the other hand I've really been thinking about buying an Xterra 705 (or the Deus, just don't think the wife would like me spending that much on a detector) I'm just not sure if its going to be that much better that what I already have and with no dealer close by I don't have the opportunity to try one out to see how well I like it. So if anyone has experience with the coil on the Omega and or used both detectors please let me know your opinions. Either detector is going to be mainly used for coin and jewelry hunting around schools, parks, tot lots etc... possibly some beach and relic hunting if I ever make it back to a beach or find a place for relic hunting. Thanks for your help!!

If you're referring to the stock 10" elliptical concentric coil, I'm not a big fan of that one either. It's a different machine with the 11" DD coil; deeper with better target separation. The 13" should work fine also, but keep in mind that the larger coils are even more prone to EMI. Depth maxes out at about 70 sensitivity however, so don't be afraid to turn it down some to reduce the chatter. It's hard to improve on the Omega for park and school hunting.

Yeah I kind of figured it would be effected by EMI more that the stock coil but the size sure would be nice at a couple of the places I hunt for covering ground. I guess its because of all the time I have using Tesoro's and their concentric coils that I just prefer those kinds of coils, they seem to cover ground quicker and I feel that I pinpoint much faster with them also. Now if they will just come out with a machine that is comparable to the Omega I'll have to buy one and see how well I like it!

I can't get past test garden test with the 10" elliptical, I always go for the 11" DD. It ID's better, its deeper, its big problem is crown bottle caps in areas where they are plentiful.
EMI is a problem, but in my area its a problem with almost all my detectors.

Some people try to run the Omega with its sensitivity to high, they want to run it @ max or near max, I try to run mine up to around 70, the manual even states a threshold of internal electronic circuit noise at a certain level.

I find that @ a sensitivity setting of 65 to 70 and the 11" DD coil I'm able to get close to the 9" range in depth on coins (a real 9" of dirt) I know in some cases that looks like 12" LoL.

I'm not sure if I've ever gotten mine up to 70 I think mid 60's is about max in most places I hunt in a couple of others I have to turn it down to the mid 40's. Just wish they would make a 13" coil that was concentric rather than DD. Most of my gb readings are in the lower 60's with a few spots that drop down to the upper 50's. Never had a problem with my fixed gb Tesoro's and have gotten good depth with both. The only time I had EMI issues with my DeLeon was when I was very near a power line and so far I've never had an issue with the Cibola, the only time it acts up is when I try to run the sensitivity to high.

Does changing the frequency help?
Have you tried to go up the scale with one notch at a time to see if maybe you could find it maybe in one of the trash area notches?
Also,
Does the EMI cause it to false, or is it just real chattery? (I can sometimes deal with chatty, but false signals are a differ story)

So far changing the frequency hasn't helped there's always the first time tho I suppose. It just gets real chattery, as soon as that happens I back the sensitivity back down to it stabilizes and start hunting. Haven't tried the notch thing will give it a shot next time I go hunting, not sure when that will be since its rained every weekend except for one in the past month and that one was already taken for doing some things with the wife.

Running them in the "Noise" can be okay if its not falsing, it takes some time to be able to get use to the chatter and just think of it as a operating tone, but many long time well seasoned treasure hunters will run the detector into the range of "Chatter" the unit should still hit good on any decent target.

I'll have to give it a try next time I go out, can't hurt anything and you never know what I just might find.
