New coil just arrived!

Just picked up the new 13" Ultimate coil for the MXT Pro. Can't wait to try it out! Need some of this snow to melt first.

congrats, looks promising...
I'm curious how it would compare to the D2 which is my most recent coil. I've been burning up the ground with it when I get the opportunity and making great finds but when an area gets cleaned out you always want more depth. Huge concentric coils turn me off because where I like to hunt, very old homesteads, they are always littered with iron and square nails. These conditions beckon a DD....but how big can you go? I'll be anxiously waiting for an in-depth review. Let us know about specific targets like bottle caps, good targets mixed with iron and of course, DEPTH! For 200 clams I want some real world testing. lol

Thanks Aaron. Preliminary review:
Tried it yesterday and this evening in my yard...that is filled with square nails(1800's home). I've covered my yard with 2 different coils over the past year and a half and have come to realize there isn't anything really left in my yard. Well, this coil proved me wrong. In a short time I found 5 wheat cents, 2 memorials, a thimble and a brass nut....nothing spectacular find-wise, but it seems to be able to separate nicely for a coil of its size. With the wheats I pulled up, the pinpointer would find numerous nails in the hole as well as the coin. I'm impressed so far.

Sounds like a DD to me! I love the separation that they have. What was the deepest wheat so far? In my experience, very much like yours, after searching my yard thoroughly with the 950 and 5.3 I bought the D2 and began finding wheats and buffalo nickels the other coils missed. But to my surprise non of them were extremely deep. This was sort of a let down thinking about the previous coils missing a wheat at say 4 inches. Those coins typically showed up very well with the DD but I was confused why they had been missed. I'm convinced the separation is the key factor in these cases. Even though the coins were fairly shallow, they are actually difficult targets. My lawn is littered with iron and nails along with lots of small bits of tin foil and can slaw that gets pulverized by lawn mowers. The rusty iron is a huge factor to consider when hunting old homesteads, which is why I keep my D2 mounted until further notice. At least you know your new coil will find targets that your other coils have missed. Just think of the stuff missed by the folks that "hunted out" their favorite spots. I have concluded that the phrase "hunted out" just means it hasn't met a DD coil yet!

How high of gain can you run that combo in C/J mode? And how chattery is it at that level? I have played around with Relic Mode some and its SUPER stable and you can max out the gain and still not have chatter. I just like the 7 tones in multi-tone C/J. I shouldn't really let that stop me from using the better mode though.

One thing I did notice was the twist off bottle caps scream "dig me" with reading in the 70s and 80s with high tones. Otherwise no complaints with it. Have had some nice finds with it so far. Will try to post later.

Yet another similarity to the D2. Don't let that bother you too much, it would be MUCH worse if it downgraded a good signal instead. Its easy to get upset if your in an area littered with bottlecaps though. But if you watch closely, you will soon come across an old good target that has iron with it, these are obviously missed by everyone before you found it. When I use my D2 in a heavily hunted area, I pay extra attention to trashy signals(high chirps with iron grunt), these sometimes are difficult but good targets. Turn sideways and sweep the target again. The design of a DD allows it to see a thin strip so turning 45 degrees makes it see the target with a completely different perspective. If there is iron with the target, it may only affect the signal while sweeping it from one position. These difficult targets mandate that you only sweep about 2 inches side to side. More than that will cover more targets than you want. If there is iron nearby, your goal is to look at the good target without sweeping over the iron target so a VERY small sweep is in order once you narrow down where the potentially good target is.

Whitetail. Anything new you can tell us on your new Ultimate coil? I am thinking about something bigger for some of the old mining camps around these parts but a big concentric just wouldn't see through this soil. I am in Carson City Nv.

Redrock,
I deal with some nice soil conditions here where I am. I'm not sure how it would be around old mining camps out West....but I'd sure love to try. Lol!! The coil seems to separate nicely. I was in my yard and have dug quite a few targets that it found where the other coils I have did not.....and I own a 6x8 SEF that I love also....so go figure? The other day I was at a school built in the 50's when I got a marginal signal but it was deep. I dug the target and came up with an old colonial button at about 9" or so? That target has been in the ground long before the school was ever there I'm sure. I've found a number of these at my buddies 1800's home...so I'm very familiar with them. Also the other day at a school I got a very faint signal down deep and dug a 1939 nickel that I'd guess was a foot down. With both of these targets I just kept going down and down to get the pinpointer to even begin going off....so you know its deep when that happens. I've heard that "bigger" isn't always better when it comes to coils though. I don't have any other information other than what I've read, but I'd be careful about going too big in the way of coils....just my 2c.
Good luck and keep us posted on your finds. Those mining camps have to be awesome to hunt. Lots of history out there I'm sure. Don't hesitate to email me if you have any other questions I can help you out with.

After all of the coils I have Tried on my MXT PRO
80% of the time I use my D2 DD 10" Coil
In trashier areas My go to coil is my 6x8 DD SEF kick butt coil
I love both of these and wouldn't switch up on anything
Just my 2 cents worth.
this is my personal selection after trying every coil White's has to offer:detecting:
