New Coil for Cz21 - 8"

anyone ever had to replace there coil on cz 20/21

i called fisher (first texas) today to get a coil price for 8" just to see if i want to send it in and have the 10" coil replaced by 8" model

lady told me, she did not know how much a 8" coil would be since it would have to be hard wired in and then pressure tested.

maybe i should have just asked what a new cz 8" coil would cost

so, has anyone had just there coil replaced?...................if yes...................about how much

thanks

max

In order to replace the coil. The unit will have to be completely disassembled, wire in the new coil, resealed, and tested.

Minimum charge for CZ21 will be
Labor: 1.5 hours @ $55/hr = $82.50

Coil: $110

Freight: $20

That is TRUE. You need to send the unit to somebody that can do it. I tried it myself and it was a NIGHTMARE!! I have NO idea why you would want to change it. I have both of mine the 10" coils because hunting with an 8" was just too small.

I do have an 8" coil for the CZ-21. If you want it I will sell it for 50.00 + shipping. I had a 10" put on mine and I won't look back.

But don't try to change it yourself. You will probably be sorry.

I did forget to mention there are two places that might do it cheaper. Prostock detectors in MI is Fisher Certified and so is a company called brokendetectors.com out of Texas that might do it cheaper.

That is good to know Max, I'll wait and see how you like it and may do the same. Seems like it would work better with the 8", especially in heavy iron.

And let well enough alone as it would have to be done at the factory and is cost prohibitive at at best..The larger coil really improves your coverage and unlike on land weight is not a factor due to the water buoyancy..Fortunately a land CZ you can change coils at will by simply unscrewing the connector at the box but not so with a water unit where maintaining your waterproof integrity is a big issue and certainly don't want to fix what aint broke...

Maybe its because I dive with it and hip mount it that makes it easier for me. GraveDiggerMax, If you want, See if Prostock will change the coil and for what cost. If it is cheap enough for you I will send him my 8" and you send him your detector. If your 10" is good I will do a straight trade.

Also FYI, Any 8" coil for the CZ series will work on your toy. You could buy one off eBay and cut the end off of it and use it, if you felt like trying to do it yourself, which as stated previously is not a wise choice.

I've used both the 8 and 10 " coils. The 8" is by far the best in iron and other trash and it's much easier to push through the water. The 10" coil will make an old man out of you fast if you hunt a lot.

Couldnt a person use he water proof connector from sunray and beable to use both? If it would even work.

EZ, from what I've heard from people who actually used them, they leak. Warranties will be voided using them too. They are NOT recommended.
