I am a big fan of Sony products. Mine is a Sony H-7
If you want a new one you can get one in the Cyber Shot series for a little over $100.
You can buy a lightly used one on ebay for half that. Maybe less. I recommend that you get one that comes with a rechargeable battery of sorts. The ones that take two AA batteries eat them like crazy.

I have a Canon PowerShot A560 (7.1 Mega Pixels with 4X Optical Zoom) which I am sure is great, but digitals are new to me and haven't conquered using it as yet. Steve in AZ has one also and he can tell you more about it! Price with extra film clip, rechargeable batterys and charger was just under $200.00 in Oct 07, but may be higher now!

As Betty said, I have one and love it. After getting to know it I have no problems, takes close ups as well as landscapes. My son gave it to me for Christmas a year ago so dont know the cost. steve in so az
