New AT PRO

Graz

New member
Is it just my imagination, or has Garrett started using a cheaper material in areas that need high strength materials. I promptly split one of the compression sleeves while installing the shafts together on my just received AT PRO. Don't use much pressure when tightening the sleeves. I read about users having breakage concerns with mounting supports also. I have been at this hobby, it is just that, since the early '70s and like many others here, have bought, used, and sold many other brands. I appreciate that Garrett is still built in the U.S., but let's hope the engineering goes beyond the circuits and extends to the external parts as well. A military type quick release for the loop and headphone connectors wouldn't hurt either......

It may be so. Trying to keep prices under control maybe? I haven't had that problem, haven't had anything break yet. The connections are waterproof, do they make quick release that are water proof?

Perhaps Garrett could offer an ATP on steroids? One that offers the suggested improvements and options users have asked for.

I think the large number of units sold plays into reality of the integrity of Garrett products. There are a lot of AT Pro's, Gold, ACE 250's & ACE 350's out there. I am not surprised at all that some units have had issues. I know all manufacturers have issues, be it cosmetic, structural or electrical. I doubt if any manufacture will go to a cheaper product, to save their bottom line. In fact, I think it works the other way. A manufacturer might spend MORE to prevent units from being returned. It gets very expensive dealing with warranty repairs and shipping. And think about it.....there are many many units out there. I think the AT Series have really done well with the number of units that people have purchased. For every incident where there was a specific failure, there are probably 10,000 (it's a guess) units which have no had that issue. That certainly doesn't constitute a high failure rate. We all hope that when we purchase a product that it will be problem free. Garrett has one of the best warranties out there, and there have been countless testimonials out there to substantiate that.

I am looking forward to ground thawing up here in SD. I also have a headphone connector on the way so that I can use my favorite small Garrett phones. Last year was hot and dry, tough digging, maybe we'll get some rain this year.

Garrett was good enough to put a couple of the compression sleeves in the mail. That is the kind of service that keeps us returning to their brand.
