New At pro with small coil gets silver other machines missed

Got my new machine yesterday afternoon. Somehow someway i got the sports package with the extra 5x8 hat and book for 560! New. the msrp on the sticker was 579.99. I didnt think that that was even the correct amount but anyway.....
I went home and put it together. I havead the ,, etrac, fisher f2 f4 xterra 705... My yard has been hammered with different detectors . So needless to say i wasnt expecing to find a silver dime at 6 inches at the same place in my front yard that i have worked all these other machines out on. It read 78-83 range and did have some iron in the hole.. a few nail partials. now i have had those other detectors set up six ways to sunday.... small coils.. big coils... two tone ferrous.... you name it.. i tried it... but the at pro with the small coil.... wow. hit one out of the park.... very nice machine.. get the small coil... not the best depth.. lighting fast and great iron small iron..

I do have a question though.... After air testing silver with the large coil, i noticed as i increaded the depth of the coin the numbers would.jump around alot .. i guess like any detector... but also they would drop... sometimes into the sixties.... knocking the sound out of the high tones.... So my question is... if hunting an older site... that has some trash.. how do you get deeper targets if they are sounding mid toned and showing up as some pull tabs do? I guess dig everthing?

Listen to the tones more so on the deep targets..Sometimes they won't show a VID and only a faint tone... You'll get use to it just like you other machines you've had..I've even dug IH with only a tone in one direction..but the faint tone was solid and sweet and I knew it was a good target....

If it's deep.....dig it. It is most likely old and might be masked by another target also.

If you don't dig it, someone else will and they will get the credit for digging a deep target.

Great find. I hope it is a Sign of finds to come.

Indoor air tests can be tricky. Especially with the sensitivity turns up. There are sooo many things to cause interference; anything made of metal or that uses electricity. If the numbers jump around you can try the frequency adjust. I don't know what you were testing. I have had the same happen with a 14k gold necklace, and a silver bar. I took the necklace outside and put it onto the ground and it gave a more stable number. I believe the clasp is not gold and that will have an effect. I believe the reason for the jumping while increasing the depth is that closer, the silver is the dominant item, but further away something else is being detected. I think EMF is able to have an effect as the signal from the coin becomes weaker.

You will find that, most of the time, a good target (coins) will have a number that only fluctuates a number or two. Pennies most so because there are so many different one. Nickles will ring in as a mid tone as a 51-52 on the vdi, pennies a 78 - 81 (depending on the composition), dime a high tone at 83-84 and quarters a high tone at 87-88. This is not always true as there are things that will cause variances. Like any machine. Trash will almost give a jumpy signal either on the indicator or vdi or both. Scanning from two different directions always helps to tell. I have dug a fraction of the trash with the ATP, but still get some stubborn pieces of aluminum that want to be coins.

Good Luck!

yes, on deep targets that sound off nice from multiple directions, i dig it. now, if it's mixed with junk signals that is a total judgment call. but i tend to dig the deep signals and it has produced some really nice finds for me.

The gold rings I've found with the AT Pro all came in the same as a pulltab, about 62-65. If you're getting pull tabs, that is good news - means that the last guy didn't get the gold!
