Just another weapon to add to my arsenal. I've been using Minelab Explorers primarily the last 10 years with my trusty White's DFX as a backup. I love the weight and balance of the AT Pro. Should be able to hunt longer than the 4-5 hour maximum I had before my back gave out using the Explorer. Hoping for another January thaw here in Upstate NY so I can get out digging soon!

nice choice in detector ed we have posted each others finds in the explorer forum as i also have an explorer se but totaly enjoy my at pro once you learn its ways like any detector it has very good depth stable operation and just plain fun to use ive done side by sides with it and my se locating a deep singnal with the se then running the at over it the at finds the target pinpointing is right on lots of fun on a hot summer day in the local lakes chest deep in the water much cooler then a hot open field the explorer stays home alot the at pro is just a joy to use learn the pro zero mode thats the way to go with this detector you can run an explorer you will do fine in pro zero on your at good hunting ed my spring thaw come soon as i,m froze in here in northern vt.

I just got mine this week too. Target separation is terrific and can be tested indoors at low sens by lining up targets 1/2" apart then sweeping over. Try placing nails between the targets to see what it can do. The smaller 5x8" coil is worth buying giving this ATP more versatility especially notable in the separation test I described. Small coil + Pro Zero + iron audio will test its capabilities at iron littered colonial sites. I've never been this jazzed over a detector just from messing with it indoors. While I am waiting another 4 weeks for my complete recovery from gut surgery / (all is good) I can read, learn and test responses in my test plot.

I used to use the explorer II and was it an awesome machine but as a go anywhere detector you can't beat the ATP for the value. I have been snorkeling fresh water swimming holes and have been doing very well and love the ATP. Garrett are on a winner here for sure. Good luck with your new ATP!
Cheers!

I too have been using the explorer for a few years and just got an at pro last week as a backup/second detector. I took her out yesterday, i like it, and yes it is lighter but its gonna take some time to get use to, i took it to an old school house site and i think it may be more chattery then my explorer, lots of one way blips and farts and crackles, but i did find one IH penny and a token. But i really didnt dig a single target trash or treasure over 3 inches deep

Ed, Just got my AT Pro yesterday. I am also in NY so it looks like we both are going to have to wait a little before we use them! They say we might see some 50 degree days next week though. What part of NY are you located? I am in Corning.
