New At Gold....

I recently purchased an AT Gold. It should be here on Monday. I had an AT Pro for a while and was impressed with it, but wasn't really using it much at the time so I sold it.

I will be using the AT Gold for bad weather, streams, creeks, and cellar holes. What kind of a difference can I expect between the two machines. So basically, those that have run both the AT Pro and Gold, let me know your opinions about these two machines. Thank you!!

I haven't used the AT Pro, but I can tell you a bit about the GOLD. First off smaller coil. I can't say for sure but what I've watched on the videos, the Iron Audio works better, just more definite, stronger. The All Metal Mode is probably going to overwhelm you unless you learn it in low trash areas. It picks up very small items and loud. Interestingly, the sensitivity at lowest level picks up targets better in Disc 1 and 2 than in AMM. The Ground Balance Window (only for AMM) also can be used on uneven ground, where you want to keep a smooth threshold, but don't use too much. In wet sand the threshold can be turned into the negative numbers to reduce crackling. Anytime when your ears get tired, you can turn it to zero and still have plenty of depth. I really like the AMM, just watch the numbers and any deep targets that read above iron that are quick, sharp, and speed up, check them out. Also when in Disc modes and you get an iffy target, you can switch to AMM and it will be much clearer. Of course ground balance often. I use AMM so I can hear I am over clean ground. Be sure to read the manual (it's online at the Garrett website) and watch all the instructional videos. I'm sure there's more to tell you, just can't recall. I'm sure you will be impressed.

My obvious difference was in depth. I got 1-2" better depth using the true all metal mode over the disc one/disc two mode.

The audio on the AT-Gold is more crisp and has less chatter than the Pro's audio. The Gold locks on to targets better especially with the 5x8 coil. I use the 8.5x11" in less trashy areas and run it in all metal to get extra depth. This machine loves low conductors like lead brass and gold. But it will scream on silver to. I've found more silver with this machine than any other machine I've used in my 20 years of detecting. Give it a chance and learn it and it will treat you to some good finds.
