New and Thank you all......

Ed in Mo

New member
New guy from Missouri here. Ordered the X Terra 70 today! I just want to thank you all so much. I have been following the forum for about a week now and read most past related stuff for the last year...wow. I have learned alot all ready and feel like I even know some of you by now too..lol. But honestly, Thank you all for helping me make what I hope will be a good decision on my purchase.
I am not new to detecting, about 15 years now, but have to admit I lost interest when I made my last purchase of a XLT about 3 years ago. All the controls..all the settings, that was just killing me. And was not impressed after all of that either. Anyone want to buy one cheap? I still have a old Garrett that is hard to part with for the tag-a-longs to use. I can honesty say I have not hunted in 2 years now. My love for detecting is still there and looking forward to finding my old love back again.
I usually only hunt for coins and jewelry, so I am getting the standard 9" 7.5kHz, the 5 X 10 DD 18.75 kHz, and the 10.5 DD 7.5 kHz ( which is on back order for 2 weeks).
I am looking forward to being able to put some good input into the forums as well as ask the usual dumb questions. You can bet I will be out hunting next weekend! Come on UPS....wooohoooooo
and again....
all of you have helped
me more than you know,

Thank you !!

It was snowing here today but thinking spring is just around the corner. Crossing my fingers on good weather next weekend. I love to know if there are any X Terra 70 owners close to me. I think the hardest part is going to be figuring out the target readings. I am beginning to think...dig anything between 10-16 and from 24-44. Haven't seen or heard much on ring or jewelry find numbers but sure it varies. I guess the test garden is the place to start.

I was just wondering if you have what you think of it and your results. Ok CU later and God Bless.

I am so new here, I have not even got my detector yet...lol. Due to come in a few days. I have just been here reading so much that I figured I might as well get a log in. I bet someone here can tell you but myself have heard little about it. I personally did not order it because I do not normally search for relics. I like shiny things !!

You found the right forum for awesome tips and making some friends, too.

In case you haven't seen Barnacle Bills recent post FAQ I would sure recommend it. And there's a link there to YouTube of the XTerra 70's owners DVD's. Excellent info about the X70!!

When I got my X70, they inadvertantly put in the DVD for the X30 & X50, which was helpful, but the one for the X70 is much more complete. Just saw it for the first time today and I will refer back to it often.

Good Luck and keep us posted on your progress!

I thank you Dick, I have watched the video a couple times already and was really helpful. And the FAQ was awesome as well. I have learned so much about this from all of you. I have read most every Q & A I have seen here on the X 70. I have researched my butt off trying not to make the same mistake as I did on my last detector. I am so sure this is the one for me and never had so much info on something I don't own.....yet! I am glad to have something to be excited about again, believe me I will let you all know how I am doing. I am so lucky that I found such a wealth of info in one location. And the amount of support and encouragement is over whelming here. Most are not so willing to share their secrets and thoughts....right or wrong, success or failure. I can see now there are a lot of great people here and looking forward to being a part of this.

I hunt for old coins at old sites. Having all 3 frequencies of concentric coils, as well as the 10.5 DD at 18.75, I use the 3 kHz concentric coil most of the time. In all metal, I can differentiate the masking sounds of iron better than with the 18.75 coils. I'd say that is because the lower frequency responds better to higher conductive targets. And, although there is little difference, I have convinced myself a bit better than the 7.5 as well. HH Randy

Hi Randy, I have no doubt about the 3Khz coil and I use it all the time in all-metal. I found it will go deeper than the 7.5Khz coil and is still sensitive to small coins. I am very happy with it. I have seen some reports by users saying it is useless. Ok Randy many thanks for your report and nice to run into you. God Bless.

Good on you ED. Your gonna love the 70. I sleep with mine under the bed on my side so I can pat it now and then.
Good luck.

Hi Ed and very nice to meet you indeed! I hope you will make many finds with the X70 and it is quite a good mochine! I love the Minelab lineup of metal detectors and enjoy using them. I hope you have a good experience with your Minelab too. Ok God Bless ya Ed and yes this is the place.

Yes I have , It is a good relic coil. I say that from my experience with it. I hunt farm fields and corn fields. The 3 kHz is great for high conductive metals and medium to big iron is very conductive. Along with the usual chunks of aluminum and such.
To get more to the point, it was too loud for me. What I mean is it sounded off loud and clear on everything in the ground. I like hearing the soft tones as well as the shallow targets.
