New and Improved AT Pro

spiral

New member
Just curious...How many people have had to send the new upgraded AT pro back to Garrett?? I had one of the older ones and sold it BUT I find myself missing it..I'm thinking of buying another one of the Improved ones.. Have all the "bugs" been worked out??

The new ones with cam locks are very trouble free. I haven't had one go back since the switch.

Been using mine for several months, no troubles.

The new ones are working great, with very few returns. Some of the returns worked fine.....there was some user error involved with the set up of the detector. I have one of the older ones, and it has many hours on it both on land and in the water, with no issues.

I may have to send mine back due to falsing issues that are on and off...When it happens, the detector goes nuts and starts sputtering and flashing random stuff on the screen, even with the sens set all the way down...if you try to GB like this, it makes this earsplitting screech as you bob the coil...I thought it was just the DD coil doing this, but it has done it now with the 6.5x9 too...I think I will send it in once the snow flies, or if shutting the machine down and resetting it fails to stop the falsing...

HH,

Got mine back from upgrades some-time ago ... works good , had no problems (well, other than user stupidity at times)

My newer one with the cam locs works great. No problems so far.

It's a great machine. Garrett thinks it's a relic machine but it's the best coin machine I've owned. Only time I use the Omega is when my arm get tired.

I do not like the new cam locs and do not use the new center rod piece. With the top cam loc I have to take the rod apart to change out the batteries! I'm happier with a bit of wiggle. Mine was an early model and got upgraded. It works fantastic and just may become my main land detector. I'm comparing the ATP to my Explorer, GTP1350 and Fisher CZ70 PRO. I really like my upgraded ATP, but so far it does not like the saltwater at all! It goes crazy and I need to experiment with it more. Hopefully I can get it to work well at least on the wet sand! The recent E&W ATP review posted here really glows on using the ATP at the salt beach... 2 gold rings found!

I'm going to try something a CZ20 user once wrote about- he left GB at 1 in the wet salt sand... always with great results. I know the ATP does not have a salt mode (It should!)- but I wonder how it would handle the salt by manually reducing GB to minimum in PRO Mode? Worth a try.

The modified ATP just might be the best all-around machine to date! Garrett, you should perfect it! All-Terrain includes wet salt beaches. If possible the ATP needs a salt mode of some sort. Perhaps this is not possible with the higher frequency? The GTP has a salt mode and I do not even know what that mode does? The CZ has a salt mode. So does the Tesoro Tiger Shark. So why not the ATP? How about a second frequency to knock out the salt like the Whites BHID? A beach mode should be the next ATP mod for sure!

There seems to be so much interest in using the ATP in the salt. Garrett, mod it to work better in the salt and the ATP just might take over the detector market! It's that good!
