New 8" DD Excelerator search coil

JW sent my new 8" DD Excelerator search coil and UPS delivered it Fri. along with my wife's new Accusound headphones. I wanted to take it right out and run it thru its paces but it was 105 degrees, so I decided to wait until Sat. Well I got a late start Sat. and was only able to use it for about 1 hour before the heat got to me. Then Sunday I got out early and was able to hunt for a couple of hours before the heat and mosquitoes got to me. You have to wear a lot of insect repellent here because of the West Nile virus that is so prevalent in this area. Well all toll I have about 3 hours hunt time with the 8" and I like it. It has good depth and I was able to dig a couple of coins and a silver crucifix at 9 inches. VDI numbers were accurate and I ran my gain at +2 and the detector was reasonably stable and quiet. I hunted in a park that has a lot of trash and given the size of the coil I thought that I would have problems being able to separate targets, but I was able to work my way thru it with no problems. I perfer the 6" DD and the 4.5x7 DD Excelerators for high trash areas, but I was impressed with how well the 8" did in the trash. I look forward to more hunts using this coil. HH Dennis in Idaho
