New 6" X-Terra coils

dirt doctor

Well-known member
Are they significantly lighter than the stock coils ? No mention is made of coil covers . Do they come with the coil or do you pay extra ?
Thanks,

Graytcote,
Are you in USA !!!!
Digger spent my money  on 2 coils 3KhZ and 6" HF.
The 6" never came with a cover (skid plate) I phoned Minelab in AUS
and I was told they have never made one, but will by christmas.
Are you sure you have one !!!

ps. still love your choice digger

Sorry Guys, I was wrong when I made that post last night. The new 6" Coils do not come with a cover! I felt and saw a ridge on the DD when I sent one off and thought it was a cover. I called my partner at my store this morning and asked him if they had a cover. He said yes, then I asked him to look closer. He then told me it looked like it was glued on. So the ridge is part of the coil.
I guess I need to send out a few explanatory emails.

Thanks for making me take a second look gold rat. I was wrong, the coil fooled me. I will definitely research all subjects more before I make a post!

Thanks for your prompt reply graytcote.
I still haven't used it thinking of damage.
Its obvious every one must be using them without a cover.
Is this the case!!!
I'm like a kid at the lolly store window waiting to use it.
I've posted the forum ( re digger's advice ) about the 3KhZ coil but not the 6''.

I've got some bad news. I just got off the phone with Minelab USA and they told me they
don't know anything about any covers coming out for their 6" Coils.

The coil material, it's thickness, & construction lead me to believe we would all be dead before you could wear through the bottom plate, as the material is very different from the stock coils. Plus I'm a wader, not a lawn manicurist, so I am always thinking about sand abrasion. Other waders beside myself, dis-like coil covers and would rather epoxy coat the bottom of the coil.

Happy T-day

Like you said, you would have to try awful hard to wear out one of these coils. Coil covers add extra weight and I don't need that.---Wade

I bumped these 2 posts back up to resolve the issue .Perhaps a spokesman from Minelab themselves could post on this matter .

I thought it had a cover too and was satisfied with that.

Now that I know better I must say that I have used it to its limits ( in good faith ). Rubbed it on the ground nearly on every find and also while hunting.

Examination shows that it will last a very long time even if I use it as I do.

However, I think Minelab should make one for the coils and think they will too. As I have stated many times, I dont think Minelab will abandon the terra range in a while.

We have many many years to go on this detectorline....

The number 3 man from Minelab USA Kevin visited my store Monday and he told me that the 6" coils did have covers on them but he said he didn't know why they glued them on. He also enlightened me on the fact that the X-Terras are the only detectors out now that are totally digital. Each individual coil has it's own chip unlike all other detectors that have coils that are analog.
